Walker hires agent Rosenhaus for draft

The father of former Notre Dame tailback Darius Walker said Tuesday his son has hired controversial agent Drew Rosenhaus to represent him in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Walker, a former Buford star, announced two weeks ago he was bypassing his senior year of college to turn pro.

Among the sports world's best-known sports agents, Rosenhaus has a history of aggressively seeking lucrative contracts for his clients. Rosenhaus, who owns the Miami-based sports agency, Rosenhaus Sports, currently represents more than 90 NFL players, including superstars Terrell Owens, Plaxico Burress, Chad Johnson, Willis McGahee, Santana Moss, Warren Sapp. Jeremy Shockey, Sean Taylor and Zach Thomas. -ajc

I think this may work against him, if he was elite then yeah teams would not mind putting up with Rosie. But why take a gamble on walker if you know that it could lead to media drama

am i way off here?

Walker definitely is a bright kid and represented ND well, but this shows all he cares about is money. He was worried his draft status might even drop after next year. I am dissapointed in him. How long until he gets his degree, 20 years?

Closer to 20 weeks, actually. I seem to recall reading that Darius has been taking extra classes and summer classes, and is on-track for a diploma at the end of this semester.

I think it could be a good move, Walker knows his stock is not going to be very high, and teams probably won't pay much attention to him. SO, he needs to get a big name, attention drawing agent, and nobody gets more attention than Drew.

Ah-ha! Found it! From the transcript of Darius's press-conference...

Question: I understand that you've made really quick progress towards your degree for someone that's been in school for two and a half years. Can you lay out how you hope to finish your degree?

Darius Walker: Well, I definitely plan on staying in school this next semester, taking 15 hours, and once I'm done with this semester I think I'll have about four classes that I need before I can graduate, so very excited about that.

So as far as steps towards my degree, that's really why I came to Notre Dame is to get the degree. I definitely came here planning to be a student first and athlete second, football player second. I definitely feel like it's the right time for me. As far as graduation goes, I need a few classes after this semester, so I'll definitely be able to get that soon.

A little later...

Question: Coach told us before that he is against juniors leaving. Did he try to talk you out of this? We asked him earlier what he would do, and he said if it was an underclassman, he would be against it.

Darius Walker: Coach Weis was worried about the graduation aspect of it and me being able to get my degree and things like that. That's something he was instrumental when we had our discussion and our meeting, and it was very important and I assured him that that's something I'm still going to get and it will be in the near future.

Question: So did he try to tell you to stay?

Darius Walker: Well, I don't know if you could say that or that if he told me to stay or not. He really just stressed the fact that the degree is very important, which I agreed with; that getting the degree and the education here is most important more so than football.

And toward the end, a good quote from his mom...

Laverne Walker: I have one thing I wanted to add. I hear a lot of questions about the school aspect and we have always been school-oriented first, and as I told Coach Weis when we met with him, and all of the fans and anybody else that really has that concern for Darius, as a mother and a parent, like I told Coach Weis, you do not have to worry about Darius Walker getting his college degree, because he will do that. I will see to that. (Laughter).

I think it's safe to say that Darius will get his degree before he takes his first handoff in an NFL game.

He needs like 12 credits after this semester. That could be done over the summer if he really wanted to. That said, his agent is a turd.

I wonder how many push-ups Darius could do while holding a press conference on his front lawn.

i think that is great hire on DW's part.

Say what you will about the guy, he's a typical agent, but he does what is best for his client and gets them the best deal

Isn't that what an agent is suppose to do?

First of all his agent is a dick, lets get that out there. And second Walker won't sign with his team until half-way threw the season now.

That's good but hiring Rosenhaus is a bad move. He's just a bad person, I wouldn't want to be associated with him.

I thought walker was smarter than that! Either Rosenhaus (Bob Sugar) gives bad advice or his clients don't listen to him.

DR gets the most value for his client, that's an agents job. That said he's still a scum bag.

I don't think it would lead to 'media drama' just for the sheer fact that Walker certainly isn't the star caliber as TO. Walker isn't as much of an airhead as TO is either.

The guy represents over 90 NFL players......you guys are way to fixed on the TO garbage...

The guy is a good agent and the fact he was willing to take on Walker bodes well for walker....he wouldn't represent me

Yes Drew is a pain in the ass but remember a couple of things.
He has some of the top players.
He get's big contract for them ( doesn't matter if Walker a third round pick, when he's due Drew will get him his money).
Beside the T.O. incident the only blemish Drew had was to take food from other shark mouths.

Darius is no TO. TO was a clown before he got Rosenhaus. He does the best for his clients and gets them the most money. Isn't that the job of an agent? I would hire him in a secound. Good move DW.

The creep factor overrides DR's other good work, it always does.

Yea he is a creep....but his job is to be a selfish SOB that does and demands the things you wouldn't because you are too nice and humble...

You send him in a room to negotiate, he comes out and you say "REALLY...they are going to give me that.....damn"
