It's funny that when Hayes answers a Michigan fan's ? he adds the fact that they shouldn't be annointed one of the top 2 teams in the nation b/c "they're Michigan dammit". In other words, ranked based on reputation. But then he goes on to say how they face 3 tough offenses the first month of next season including the Irish. In other words, a tough offense based on reputation (at least the last 2 yrs).

Don't get me wrong, I hope he's right & that ND's offense will be one of the toughest but there's too many key holes to fill to label them a threatening offense yet. That being said, I've looked forward to '07 since the Michigan debacle last year. The reason being: 1.) no one will pick ND to finish in the top 10 so ND can sneak up on the haters, 2.) a different QB & more of a running threat will give Weis that element of suprise in his playcalling that he enjoyed in '05, 3.)we're one more year removed from the Davie/Willingham nightmare, 4.) ND won't be pressured to go from 6-6 to national champs like last year, which means if they go 8-4 or 9-3 (or God forbid, 7-5), we can go to a mid-level bowl & be matched up w/ a team that we actually have a legit shot to beat.

That, IMO, would be the needed remedy to catapult ND back into elite status. In today's microwavable, broadband world we wanted a national championship in Weis' 2nd year w/o some 8-4 type season that lead up to a NC run. I got caught up in the hype, too thanks to ESPN, SI and every other periodical that publishes a College Football Preview. If Weis' Irish can continue winning the games they're supposed to win & start mixing in some "signature wins" (which would be deemed upsets at least early on in '07), the the program will be advancing on the rite track. Oh, and I almost forgot, avoid the embarrassing blowouts, too.
