yeah it's called deep shit... but when you consider how many Offensive players have or are going to make the switch AND the athletes involved... not THAT bad...

we'll be fine, we knew next year was a challenge to begin with

Yep, We will be fine. We already know that Nuss and Emeka are moving to the DL. That has already been stated. So really that makes 8 this year. Could have been better but we will get thru this. I think people are going to be suprised at how good Corwin Brown does.

Nuss and Emeka will have to be converted to DT and the thing is I want players that have actually played the position before that are ranked in the top 10.

These guys both played DT in high school and Nuss was actually a better DT than offensive lineman, so its no shock that they are going to be DT. Just because Scout and Rivals list them as offensive lineman it doesn't mean they are.

Thing is I don't want converted players. I want guys that have played the position before.

Do these numbers include athletes that could possibly play defense such as Golden Tate and Greg Little (although he has stated numerous times he wants to play offense, I'd like to see him on defense)?

Yep that's sad isn't it Charlie still doesn't get it.

I don't think it has anything to do with Weis "getting it". It has to do with the stuff Trattou was talking about: the lack of an explosive defense that makes kids want to come and play here. We recruited plenty of defensive players this year and last; it's just that a lot of them didn't pan out. No question Weis deserves some criticism on this point, but it's not like he's a moron.

Re: the above question, I'm not sure if Tate is being regarded as a defensive player; it was BGS that I pulled this number from. But I have no time to check right now.

Like Silly Irish said, Nuss was a DT first and an OL second. He isnt converted. AS for most talented High School players they play both sides of the ball. Becuase a kid prefers one side to another doesnt make the kid better at the prefered side of the ball he wants to play on. In fact many players that are so called (converted) are converted becuase they were better on the defensive side.

Nuss commented that he was a better DT in HS and that he would rather play DT

Yea, Charlie must not get it. He's only 19-6 in two years with two bcs bowl berths. Maybe we should bring Ty back for we could go .500 and play in the insight.com bowl. You people kill me with this picky ass recruiting bullshit. We will be fine under Charlie Weis. The mans not God. Give him a couple more years and this team will be unbeliveable. If you can't stand winning then go cheer the losers on.

The way the offense change with a new coach the defense can do the same. You have got to see what CB does you are going to be very happy. I said it before our guys are not as bad as they looked this year. They just need someone who will let them play football.

I belive Weis is getting it hence his bringing in a young NFL experinced DC. He canned Minter right before the end of recriuting season in hopes of landing a couple of recruits at the end. Obviously he knew Minter could not get the job finished. CB will bring to the table just what the young kids want he can show fairly current video of himself doing the things these kids want to do. How many top DC's can say they succeded in both the NFL and College? He must be given time though. This year is a tough one for the D but does anyone really have high expectations for this year? Together Corwin Brown Charlie Weis and guys like Ron Powlus bring the one thing every recruit wants: knowledge on how to take that next step to the NFL. Next years recruits will be more defensive. If not then we can start complaing about not getting it right know CW is making changes that prove he knows something is not right.

Okay, guys, this is getting a little out of hand here.

Is our defensive recruiting going the way that we would like? No, it is not. However, it is not like we haven't gotten anyone. We're not sifting through walk-ons and unoffered players that nobody has ever heard of.

The defense will be fairly new next year, with the exception of Laws, Zibby, Lambert, Crum and Wooden. Most of the kids that we have on D (and there are quite a few) haven't seen that much playing time. Let's give them a chance before we start bitching that we don't have anybody. Nagel and Paskorz are atheletes. They may turn out to be the best thing since sliced bread, who knows? I think that we are forgetting that there are some players on the team that deserve a shot. Vernaglia and Brockington could be out to prove themselves this year. Mix in the new guys that are hungry and the attitude of Corwin Brown and we might just have a pretty good D. Let's give our guys a shot before we give up and start crying about having a terrible D. I know, it's a long wait until September, but that is when we will find out what we truly have. It might be better than you think.

Go Irish!!

Hey man, I wasn't criticizing CW -- just read what I wrote above in his defense! All I was doing was remarking on my disappointment as to how things went; I wasn't pointing any fingers.

I agree! I'm tired of ND playing passively

Skills can be learned. What we need is speed, football smarts, and "play like a champion" desire.
