I think it is great we got a bunch of offensive recruits but as far as filling our needs this recruiting class is average at best. We need DL and LB's and we did not get even close to enough! Yes, this is only one guy but it is one of MANY defensive recruits we lost this year...just puts the national championship dreams another year away because we will NOT win a chamionship without a great defense!!!!

Another point, if your an 18 year old kid do you want to go live in California or Flordia or Indiana for 4 years! USC, Flordia, and Texas will always have a leg up on us with the southern recruits just because of the weather and that will only change with global warming.

Good point. If you listed all of the recruits who ND were in on but lost, then you have the makings of a dominant defense. I just think that there's a chance new schemes or formations may make current players better than in past seasons...hopefully. Some guys may surprise us because they fit better in schemes CW has put into place. If our defense comes out next year and is aggressive and makes plays, the defensive recruits will come.

Looking at the 2006 and 2007 classes, ND has the makings of a very good secondary but a weak front 7. Hopefully some of these less heralded recruits will come in and surprise some people.

ND must focus its recruiting efforts on the defensive side of the ball in 2008...specifically the front 7.

And for the record, I didn't like Urban Meyer before and I REALLY don't like him now.

JT did what he thought was best for him. If I saw ND's defense this year, I'd be worried too that the coaches weren't good enough to get me to the next level. I really don't know how you could say otherwise and w/ a brand new DC coming in, you have to wonder what kind of coach he is and how good he is gonna be. You can't blame the guy if he's trying to go for the sure thing (Florida's Defense) instead of taking a riskier choice (ND's crappy defense). Yea it sucks that he bailed out so late, but ND chose to change DC because they thought it was best (and i really hope it is) and he has the right to change his mind as well.

I have to agree with you seniorle on what type of new DC he is going to be. Since he has never been a DC coach, what style is he going to have and it appears that ND is more focus on the other side of the ball.

Corwin Brown is playing a similar role that Weis played when he first came to ND. At first, a lot of recruits seemed hesitant because Weis was an unproven head coach, but when recruits saw how explosive the offense was, they began to believe in coach Weis. The same will have to happen for Brown, recruits, like Trattou (interesting that his name resembles ) will need to see the defense in action before they commit. I think Brown will be a good coach, but it was always a possibility that we would lose a recruit with the change and it is unreasonable to think he could provide a mass exodus to ND. Firing Minter and losing Trattou is better than keeping Minter and losing MANY recruits the next few years.

Notre Dame isn't just another university. It is a special place with tradition and history. They are involved in charitable works during and after graduation. Any kid from either as Catholic school or public school background should be able to see the difference between a place like NOTRE DAME and a school like Florida. No Trattou isn't the second coming. Our coaches learned something from this decommitment. If you think we took this hard, I bet CW is livid. Our coaches will be better prepared. You know Florida took 8 players from other schools. I am sure that Justin and other true student athletes who chose other schools over Notre Dame will recognize the difference especially when they see there teamates taking "mickey mouse courses," or getting money from the alumni.They will see the difference when their short career is over and their degree( if they get one) is not as respected as students from Notre Dame.

The way Ty and Bob were canned, if we don't start winning against the elite in the next 2-3 years, Charlie should be canned.

for one thing were going through this trouble because Ty and Bob sucked so they got canned. since Holtz left weve been struggling to get the ELITE athlete. But hasnt CW shown us that he can recruit "ELITE" players. hes a lil behind on the defensive side but it will take at least 2-3 years to be up to speed with the "ELITE" teams (ala USC, tOSU, UF) on the recruiting front.

"IF" CW got canned, that would leave our team in a worse situation that when he came here. plus, with a new HC, no recruit would trust a school that gets rid of their coach before the kids he recruits graduate.

one thing your missing GETNASTY, and maybe many more fans, is that were rebuilding and you need to be patient. i realize this is hard because it is ND. but i have full trust in CW that he will be winning against ELITE teams ........in 2-3 years, that is.

On a side note about the Weis stuff.

We would have won a NC last year if we had Florida's talent stockade in the backyard. With what we had, and no defense, we were 1 OT game and 1 bad call away from going to the Championship game.

CB has done what these recruit want to do. From what everyone who has been around CB says he is the real deal. Irish fans have faith. BTW the guys on our teams are just as talented as some of the top 5 teams. The coaches just needs to get them to perform, and CB can do that so watch out the 07 defense will be a wrecking crew.

i find it funny that you would even make a suggestion that his name sounds in any way similar to traitor. The kid made a choice and you are nothing to him. If you get this worked up over recruiting, go hang yourself.

Trattou made his decision and it's not Irish, so be it. Could have the Irish "D" benefitted from him being part of the team? Probably so. Though he decided to go elsewhere, it isn't a make or break impact on the team. Losing Trattou just allows a golden opportunity for someone else to step up and make a name for themself in his stead. One recruit does not make or break a team!!! Let's move on!

First of all, Urban didn't really want to come to ND, secondly ND would not submitt to Urban's unreal demands on admissions standards to get into the university, thirdly don't use all CAPS in your post, and finally and most impotantly, DON'T TRASH RECRUITS OR PLAYERS ON THIS SITE!

^WOW! FWIW, Urban declined the ND job, not the other way around. I still feel fortunate to this day w/ the way things worked out. Definately disappointed Tratt's a gator...dude just wasn't an ND guy..true colors came out w/ the situation he left ND in, obviously can't depend on a guy helping win NC's if you can't trust his word. Who knows how his future turns out, I won't be the guy wishing him the best, nor will I be the guy hoping he gets crabs from some UF slut. It is what it is. My focus is shifting from what was to what is....Kallen Wade, Kerry Neal. ND will be fine. Yeatman could make the switch as could any number of guys. First its not Charle losing recruits, the kid changed his mind after a coaching/scheme change if that bothers the kid then let him move on thats great. I wouldn't change head coaches with any school in the country right now, Meyer would have come in here and Quinn would have been running the spread option the last two years and then probably not been a high draft pick. Weis is the right guy for the job and I don't think anyone doubts that. Corwin Brown switching defensives schemes I might have played a role in JT leaving but I think it was probably more of the coaching change itself that had an affect, its hard to have a guy go into a kids house and sell him on your school and then that guy (Minter) not be there anymore. And if you think CW is scared of anything then you have no freaking clue what you are talking about, Weis has no probably going heads up in recruiting kids against USC, OSU, UF. Remember last year he won some of those big recruiting wars, S. Young, K. Reuland were just two guys that CW beat SC for and Reuland is a Cali kid. The defensive recruiting will catch up in the next few years. As I said in a previous post in a different thread, this is a long term rebuilding job, look to CW's 5th year or beyond for us to chase the title, by then we will have not only the talent but also the depth of the other elite programs.

jboxer- I'm sure that everything you say about this kid is correct except one, he is no longer an ND guy, physically or mentally. I know that you are saying that because you have a high opinion of his character, but once he made his choice, he is no longer entitled to be called an "ND guy."

Trattou said in his interview he is going to UF because he likes the way thier DL plays compared to ND. Its in black and white. He is not an ND guy. ND guys go where their heart is, not with a grass is greener mind frame.

The news has broken that DE Sidell Corley is a Florida de-commit, and Florida’s top rated recruit DT Torrey Davis (in a rare agreement, both Rivals and Scout also rate Davis the #2 DT in the nation) will probably have to go to JUCO because of academic problems. I wonder if a certain ex-ND DE recruit is starting to wonder whether all that love he received from the Gator coaches this past week was in recognition of said recruits’ talent, or was it because the snake oil salesman behind the endeavor already knew that we has about to lose 2 of his top recruits, and needed an emergency replacement. It’s a little tough on the psyche to know that you were only picked because the first choice was going to be no longer available. It sort of puts all of that love that said recruit so effusively described in the Scout article last night in a whole different light. I think said recruit may have made a big mistake yesterday. Anyway, I was just wondering.

Whoa! You guys are getting out of control over 1 lost recruit. You blame Charlie! Are you kidding me. He just recruited IMO the best offensive class this university has ever seen, and it is certainly the best in the country, and you want to blame Charlie for something. How about thanking him for doing an outstanding job. He realizes that there has been deficiencies in the D recruiting, and he has already taken steps to correct it, Corwin Brown. Give the guy a break, he has recruited more talent to ND in the last 2 years than Tybob Davieham did in their combined 8 years. Besides, I'm kind of looking forward to winning those 49-45 games, it will be exciting, sort of like watching NHL games during the early Gretzky era.

YES! I blame Charlie. He knows football; and yes, he knew we needed D talent LAST year. So what happened this year. He goes out and recruits more great O talent, but skated on the D talent. It appears that the other schools coaches looking for D talent (Trattou, Wilson, Martin, Donald, etc) outdid CW on that front. He should have put more recruiting effort into D talent. CB appears to be a good hire, but we'll see in a few years. AGAIN, DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!.
