“Coach Denbrock spoke to me about Notre Dame in general,” Betiku said. “Coach Brian Kelly spoke to me about the school and asked me about my trip.”

Betiku’s host was Notre Dame freshman defensive back Ashton White who he previously knew from when he lived in Washington D.C.
“It was awesome,” Betiku said. “He had a lot of good things to say about the program. He really likes it. He likes the academics. He’s having a great time over there. He told me everything about the school and everything I need to know. He likes it and he keeps it 100 with me. Coming from Ashton that’s good.”

“It was cool,” Betiku said. “He’s a freak. He’s all ripped up and everything. Kind of reminds me of myself (laughing) it was nice meeting him. He looks bigger in person than he does on the field
because he is so lean.”

“I think their academics are awesome,” Betiku said. “That’s what makes Notre Dame the total package. The graduation rate and what the school has to offer academically.”

“I feel like I can adapt and fit into any school. The school, what a great school.”

It also cant hurt that the Irish pass rush looked pretty good on Saturday.

Absolutely true. And according to my NCAA Football '14 game, we earned an extra 250 points on his visit thanks to the 3 sacks by the defensive line! BOOM!

Side Note: damnit I miss the NCAA Football series......

More to add, he told Anna he will be an EE and decide next month. Will not name a leader, he feels that is rude to do and will just announce.

Because he is an EE he has to start the process literally this week to be a realistic option for ND. He hasn't started it yet for ND. Thankfully, that makes this recruitment really clear and easy from a ND perspective - if he starts the process he is clearly extremely interested and we have a shot. If not, we will fade quickly and it's over. Pretty cut and dry.

Exactly, tj chimed in saying this as well. He also added Betiku has "preliminary clearance" from admissions but everything needs to be submitted.

No, I'm pretty sure he's referring to the QB. He's kind of a big guy and doesn't usually like to run all the way to the QB, who is often 4 or 5 yards from the line of scrimmage. He likes to occupy blockers near the line of scrimmage and make tackles only if someone comes within arm's reach. But if that is how ND wants to use him, he's open to it.

Maybe he's kind of a fatalist and just doesn't want to speculate on anything that "far" into his future?

(To be honest, when I first read it, I didn't know what he was talking about either)

I've seen 3 Serra games live and a handful of games on Cox or Fox's game of the week over the past two seasons. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Betiku isn't going to be the impact player in college that you would think. He dominates in HS because he has a 29 year old's body. He's not always going to have that physical advantage. When you see him play versus watching Robert Beal's tape you see a huge difference in how they get to the QB. Beal looks like the type of explosive athlete that is unstoppable on some plays regardless of who is on that OL where as I can see Betiku kept in check by good college lineman who he can't overpower.

The other thing that worries me if he ends up in South Bend is somebody showing up with a birth certificate that shows he's 5-10 years older. Dude is grown. No italics.

This might cost his high school some games, but wouldn't affect his college eligibility.

At DI & DII your 5 to play 4 clock starts 1 year after your class graduates high school. So you are usually out of eligibility by 24. Religious missions are the only exemptions now I think. Military service used to qualify at the DI level in my day but I think they have to go NAIA or DIII now.

Loy has been pretty adamant this morning that Betiku is not coming to ND.
