And just about every school has mid-terms that are just as important, or close to it. But you don't see people whining about how they had to play a game around mid-terms. And let's be realistic here. I stidied a decent amount for my finals in college, but it wasn't like I needed a solid 10 hours of studying for each one. Xavier isn't quite ND's standards, but I wasn't an athlete either.

What college still has mid terms????

4 tests and a final...etc etc

Mid Terms was the excuse used by some folks the two times Stanford beat ND at home in October under Lou Holtz (1990-1992).

Excrement. They just got beat.

When it becomes convenient for them, presidents and athletic directors hide behind academics. Their whole bit about finals in regards to a playoff has become a laughing stock. The cynical aren't hearing while the mouth breathers think they're magnanimous for suggesting it.

Fix the system that is it place now. Simple as that. Let the 6-6 Sun Belt teams play the 7-5 WAC schools in a December bowl game that won't get as much ratings as a Hee Haw rerun. Closer to the top, try to ensure the two best teams get there every year rather than every other year. People will still gripe no matter what.

Convienent for them?????

People act like its about money.....a playoff would bring in more money wouldn't it?...so why do the presidents need an EXCUSE...what are they covering up for....

Seriously if the playoff is the better solution, why don't the presidents want it....its not money....a playoff would generate more money as there would be more games played

We already have a playoff: it's called the BCS Championship Game, and it's a 2-team playoff. And the other bowls still carry weight.

Thats one bowl game of many

Heck just creating the BCS lessened some of the other bowls, a playoff would kill them

Um, both the college I went to and the main college in Omaha. Both Catholic btw. And I know ND does, my sister goes there.

So each class has a Mid Term...Did my undergrad at UF, and my grad at Purdue, neither had a Mid Term...

Are they all out Mid Terms where you have the week with nothing but tests, they are at different times and all that crap...

Are are they just another test in the middle of the year

In my experience, they are basically identical to finals. Every class is required to turn in a mid-term grade for you. Each class has a large test of some sort. My college, and I suspect ND, generally have the mid-term all about the stuff you learned in that half of the semester, and the final is either the second hald of the semester, or thw semester as a whole. And it is easily worth at least 1/3 of your grade. All the same week.
