Shouldn't this have been considered by Harbaugh prior to accepting his commitment? Two of them had already happened. Why accept a commitment from a kid with 2 previous knee injuries if a 3rd one will scare you away?

He's not taking anything away from Falcon. He offered him a free ride to the University of Michigan to honor his offer or Falcon is free to go to Rice / Duke / Vandy / NW to play football (if they want him) and get a better education. He could also attend EMU, play football and become a substandard PE teacher. His future has many options and Harbaugh is only taking one specific thing away from him. I would hope BK would do the same thing in this case.

Possible the third one could be more difficult to come back from than the kid is letting on.

I get what you're saying, but I'm with Lucky on this one. After the second injury, why even offer? Sure it's nice that Harbaugh is offering an education, but the original intent was to play football. Jimmy knew before hand this kid was injury prone. Should have never offered in the first place.

I'll put it this way. In this situation, its very convenient for Harbaugh that he had another knee injury. If not, he'd just be pushing him out anyways. This has nothing to do with his knee, as he's doing the same thing to Evans, who is fully healthy.

Also, this shouldn't be a surprise. We knew this was coming when he went around the country picking up commitments left and right but kept telling the big boys he had room, when he didn't.
I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Thats fair, I'm just pointing out this has nothing to do with a knee injury. Example, Chris Evans. IMO, there really is no benefit of the doubt, he's pushing out players. End of story.

You can argue telling him that he can't play there is dirty, but he is at least saying Matt can go to Michigan and on a full ride. That's a hell of a lot more than SEC schools (or Bobby Petrino) would offer a kid in that position.

Difference is, he can't get rid of Evans if Evans doesn't want to be gotten rid of and he has to be VERY careful of how the Evans deal goes down.

I guarantee you Harbaugh didn't say anything rude to Evans to get him to take another visit. It's more like,

"Hey Chris, we have changed out minds about adding RB's and we are going to bring in Kareem Walker now. Michigan can't pass on the #1 RB in this class and he's the type of back that can handle being the featured back in Ann Arbor for the next 3 years and who can lead us to a national championship. With his addition, we are thinking you would be better at safety for us now as reps will be few and far between with him and Kiante leading the way. I'm sorry if this comes as a surprise to you and I can understand if you'd like to take a look at some other schools where you could get into their RB rotation early in your career. Make no mistake, our offer to you stands but we wanted to be up front with our thought process and wanted to get your thoughts on this matter while there is still plenty of time left in the recruiting process. We will honor any decision you come to. Go Blue!"

Still has a free education at Michigan, still could be part of a program even if he's in the doghouse for 4 years, still has the opportunity to go somewhere else with plenty of time left in the process. Tough to fault any coach for managing his roster to the fullest especially when he allows plenty of time for a recruit to make other arrangements to chase his dream of playing football at a level he wants.

I've seen this up close in college. I've seen guys "run off" I've seen guys take the cold shoulder and get the education. I've seen players leave the school at the alter too. It's always been part of the game. It's early and Evans isn't being forced into DII or Juco like the SEC horror stories... to be honest, I have no idea what is being said to him so I HAVE to give Harbaugh a pass on Evans too until the truth comes out.

Harbaugh with the blue falcon.

I agree, and at least Harbaugh is being upfront before Matt signs his LOI and matriculates. He has several options he can pursue now for his football future, unlike the Urban Meyer fiasco from the spring.

Man, a full academic ride to scUM...I'd have a hard time turning that down. If you don't play football there, it's a hell of a school.

He shredded both of his knees in HS. I think one knee he even tore twice. He'd have scored a TD on that run before the knee injuries. Just doesn't have the same burst that made him for a brief time a very sought after RB recruit. Glad to see he's out there playing. Hope he can rebound from all the injuries and have a productive career. Frank Gore went through something similar in college where he suffered knee injury after knee injury and went on to have a borderline HOF career.
