In the couple short years Irish envy has been here... this is from a thread from 04... The concern is losing to Purdue with bad defense, needing a head coach, and scheduling... no mention of much hope for bowls or anything other than absolute change...

What do you think the outcome would be now? Man, the Purdue team we faced was much better then they are playing now. I think we would have beaten them easily.

Schedule timing is everything.

I cannot agree with you on that. ND's defense made an average QB like Paul Peterson look like Joe Montana in his prime with the 49ers. Also, Purdue has lost to wisconsin, michigan and northwestern. Notre Dame is not as good as any of those teams at this point.

Another question would be could Notre Dame beat Michigan or Michigan State right now. I say no. Hopefully this season will end with ty being fired and Notre Dame getting an actual coach who CAN BRING THEM BACK. Urban Meyer is my choice. Somebody is going to snatch him up, hopefully it will be the Irish.

Now the talk is about losing to USC (current unquestioned kings of CFB) with bad defense... needing a new DC... and if will win our BCS bowl...

say what you will I'd rather be in the here and now with a more stable/ brighter long term future and a team that only gets exposed against the big boys instead of getting exposed just about every other saturday...

GO IRISH

Coach Weis set a goal and he reached it.

He said "9-3 is not good enough" and this year, at worse, the Irish will be 10-3. For those who say that Weis is not a good motivator, I think that accomplishment speaks volumes.

It will be interesting to see what Weis uses next year. Sure, every year every member of every Irish team should set their sites on a NC. But, for next year, that is completely and utterly unrealistic. So what does Weis use to motivate and focus his very young team.

If you are a curious person, the 2007 Notre Dame football season should be a dream come true as question after question about personnel and coaching philosophy get answered.

thank you someone finally realizes that you cant put together a championship team in two years. We have improved immensly fellas lets get off the coaches and quit bitching. Love this moment. Yes we lost yesterday, but if we go and win the bowl game, pull the recruits that are on our radar, we will be on our way back to the top. We aren't on top yet, But we are definately climbing not rolling down the other side of teh mountain like we were three years ago.

How far we've come? Looking from two years ago? That's a little shortsighted. Try how far we've fallen- looking from 13 years ago, when it looked like ND was reclaiming its place in college football for good. It didn't happen. Holtz lost key people and staggered to the finish. Then a bad decision with Davie. Then another one with Ty. Weis was a better choice than either of those two, obviously, but it remains to be seen whether or not he can get us back to where we were in '93, when we thought we were back for good. Until then, "look how far we've come!" threads celebrating a #12 ranked team are not really my cup of tea.

Charlie Weis does not have the horses yet, especially on defense. Florida or Arkansas will show us that in the Sugar Bowl just as Ohio State, Michigan and USC have shown us already. CW is getting the speed and needs to keep getting the best kids that can qualify.

This 2007 Signing Day is going to give us an idea of which way the program is going to go. They need difference makers on defense and explosive gamebreakers on offense. Kumara, Little and Ragone are great starts.

Weis and staff are working hard to get the talent to catch up.

Who's celebrating??? and I'm being short sighted? Okay, listen to your self...our program DID fall it ISN't where it once was... for the first time in the time period YOU mentioned the momentum is decidedly in the right direction... you give yourself the perspective and fail to even see it... but that's alright I too happy celebrating our pitiful being to care...

Jim Tressel did...so did Bob Stoops...im just saying

Stoops was able to jump start the recruiting with JUCO players and being able to raid Texas for some of their top players.

Tressel inherited a pretty good team that just couldn't get over the hump of beating Michigan. Remember Cooper always seemed to have an undefeated or one loss team heading into that game. It also help being in a state that produces some of the best talent around, so you always have those guys that want to goto the state school, no matter how the team is doing.

Coach Weis on the other hand inherited a roster full of guys that probably belonged in I-AA. Only a handfull on the roster would be able to start in other programs. Ty just didn't do the work in recruiting, he figured his title and him being of color, would be enough to get the guys he wanted. Weis is doing his best to get the top recruits, but I don't think the Irish will truly be back until the roster is completely devoid of Ty's players.
