Playing the Military schools. ( yes I acknowledge that Navy played in a bowl game)
Playing North Carolina. ( what a joke)
Beating Michigan St and UCLA. ( Pure luck if you being honest with yourself)
Looking like a J.V. High School team against Michigan, USC and LSU.
Maybe Ty Willingham did a Michael Jackson and bleached himself. That's got to be the answer right?

Ty can't hold Weis' jockstrap.

I see some similarities between this season and Ty's first year. But remember, these are Ty's guys on the field.

My my how things can turn quickly...just goes to show in todays game you better produce quickly or well.......
while I would never compare ty and CW I was completely blown away by CW's crappy play calling in the sugar...what in our lady's name was he thinking...I am going to go with he got po'd cause he can't get his subpar players to act like upper echolon players...it has to be exasperating to say the least

This schedule was set before Ty or Charlie was coach, with the exception of the extra Army game.

The coach has nothing to do with whom we play. He influences it, perhaps, but the decisions rest with the ADs of the schools.

Coaches don't choose the schedules, the AD does. Ty and his "team" were bad. This, in my opinion, is the same team that went 6-6. Weis is simply trying to disguise the weaknesses, a tactic that doesn't work for too long. Wait until Weis gets his own players until comparisons are made. This is only his second year as a coach. Remeber how far the team has come.

can't believe i was stupid enough to click on this post and read through it.

been 3 years and we are still talking about Ty?

Unbelievable.

Compare the records of the two, and compare the recruiting rankings.

Nuff said.

Yeah what Weis has done will that other guys players, is remarkable. It just goes to show what a good coach can do. Just sit back and be patient untill Charlies boys are on the field. It will take 2-3 more years to become "elite" status.

You might want to note that ND has played the military schools for quite some time; it is a gesture that is appreciated by the academies (and it is better than playing some of the teams that other schools play - like you don't think that CW wouldn't like to play some of the conference 'duds' instead of Army or Air Force???)

Oh, I think that if you check, the game against NC was there before CW arrived; the schedule isn't created at the beginning of the year.

Ty's teams probably wouldn't have won the MSU and UCLA games

Fair point in the Michigan/USC/LSU games, but Ty would also have had the team 'blow' and get wasted by Purdue/PSU/Georgia Tech

Oh, and to add to your list:
-Weis is bringing in recruiting classes that are perenially inside the top 20
-Weis doesn't think that 6-5 is a good season

I am not a Ty hater!! I thought that the guy showed alot of class, but unfortunately he struggled with winning games and getting talent.

The schedule is fine and I don't even no why it is even brought into this conversation. What about the Big Ten schools that play I-AA schools, Illinois and Temple to name a few. Air Force would beat all three of those schools and I don't hear anyone bringing their schedules up.

So much idiocy, so little time...

onenybrother: Playing the Military schools. (yes I acknowledge that Navy played in a bowl game)
My response: Ty played Navy all 3 years and Air Force once, so it's not like he never played the academies. And as has been noted, Army, Navy and Air Force all have historic rivalries with Notre Dame.

onenybrother: Playing North Carolina. (what a joke)
My response: Ty played 1-11 Rutgers, 2-9 Stanford and 2-10 Navy in 2002, and 1-10 Washington in 2004. Looks like the joke's on you.

onenybrother: Beating Michigan St and UCLA. (Pure luck if you being honest with yourself)
My response: Pure luck? The same argument could be made for the entire 2002 season. Personally, though, I like to chalk up 2002 to a defense coached to create opportunistic turnovers against sloppy teams. Worked great... until teams figured out they just had to protect the ball more when they played us. Meanwhile, Michigan State this year wasn't pure luck: it was our defense coming up big on several plays and our offense carrying out one of the biggest comebacks in NCAA history. And UCLA this year was our defense coming up big on drive after drive after drive and our offense coming through when it mattered most. I didn't see much luck displayed there.

onenybrother: Looking like a J.V. High School team against Michigan, USC and LSU.
My response: sure beats the hell out of looking like a JV high school team agaisnt NC State (28-6 in 2002), Purdue (23-10 in 2003), Syracuse (38-12 in 2003) and Purdue again (41-16 in 2004). Not to mention losing to Michigan 38-0 and FSU 37-0 in 2003, plus 3 blowout losses to USC (44-13, 45-14 and 41-10, respectively).

onenybrother: Maybe Ty Willingham did a Michael Jackson and bleached himself. That's got to be the answer right?
My response: well, one does tend to look paler when they spend more time indoors watching game film and meeting recruits instead of outdoors playing golf, so you could be onto something there, actually.

Dude... do you practice being that stupid? It's just hard to imagine anyone being that idiotic naturally.

But please, do continue. If Charlie is just Ty with lighter skin, I'm sure you can come up with plenty more arguments than just those... right?

Bash me all you want. To have a month to prepare for LSU and to be embarassed like that is unforgivable.

"Unforgivable." Quite a strong word. Does that mean you're calling for Charlie Weis's resignation or firing?

Lou Holtz had a month to prepare for the Cotton Bowl against Texas A&M at the end of his 2nd season, but the Aggies completely embarassed his Fighting Irish, 35-13. At that point, Lou's record was 13-10, a miserable .570 win-rating.

The following year, Lou won the national title.

Chew on that for a minute. As of this moment, Charlie is 19-6 with a .760 win-rating, and you call his performance thus far "unforgivable." I'm glad you weren't the AD after Lou's second season, because you probably would've fired his ass right then.

Oh, and I love how you ignore the logical arguments against your overwrought and ridiculous emoting, brushing it all away with "Bash me all you want." If you're so sure you're correct, stand up like a man and defend your argument.

Then I suggest you sell all your ND stuff you accumulated over the last two years of being a bandwagon fan and go by some scarlet and red stuff. Better hurry though, you only have a couple days to make the transformation.

Still pissed at Parshegian for the '73 Orange Bowl 40-6 whipping by the Huskers?

Haven't forgiven Lou for the 35-10 thrashing by the Aggies in the '88 Cotton?

Lou only got beat 41-24 in the '95 Fiesta so I guess you forgave him for that one, right?

Two Hall of Fame caliber coaches and both had been a Div 1 Head Coach for 15 -20 years at the time.

*sigh*

Whoa, whoa, whoa, hang on there. Clearly, onenybrother is not a fan of Charlie Weis. But that does NOT automatically mean he is not a fan of Notre Dame. I will question his intelligence, particularly if he keeps up this Charlie = Ty nonsense, but I absolutely will NOT question his loyalty just because he doesn't like the current coach. And quite frankly, I'm getting way sick of the "You're not a REAL fan" bravo-sierra that people are tossing around on here lately in lieu of actual debate.

I didn't like President Clinton in the 90s either. Did that make me un-American?
