A little perspective needed...

We all wanted the recruits that didn't declare for ND today, but people cannot form their judgments about the direction of the program on a whole based on what a few high schoolers' decisions.

At the beginning of Weis's hiring, if someone told us about the results of the first two years, I think most of us would have taken it. I agree that we haven't made much improvement from last year, if any, but it's tough when the cupboard is bare in a lot of positions. I also agree that defensive improvement is a big concern. I think the offense kind of "maxed out" last year, to a certain degree at least. I too worry about Minter's capabilities, though.

The bottom line, though, is rash complainst based on a high school football game is a little silly. The talent is improving, even on the d-side of the ball. Does this mean we'll win the National Championship in two years? If not--you can start complaining, if we are not at least contenders by then.

The problem in sports is that we are only satisfied, for the most part, if we win every game, and every title. But those expectations can't cloud our vision about where the program is coming from, where it is now, and where it is going. Remember, Weis didn't come into a situation where it only needed good coaching. It needed to be built up by recruiting as well. Let's see if he gets it done on the field, on the college football field that is. But all of us are just armchair quarterbacks, coaches, and athletic directors. It's just surprising to me that in the time of less than a week, so many people's perceptions of Weis have changed so much. Methinks many people's dissapointment is cause for some knee-jerk reactions.

I NEVER expect to win every game. but this blowout shit is just pathetic at best. there's no EXCUSE at all for that.

I think that Weis pretty much squeazed all he could out of the talent he had in his first season, then returned much of the same talent that he had already maxed out. That's why we saw no improvement this year. We were pretty much exactly the same team last year to this year with a slight dip in defensive performance.

I am satisfied with the overall record and with the fact that we are beating the teams we are supposed to. The blowouts are a huge concern though. I don't care if we go 7-5 next year, but we better be competitive in every game. If we get blown out even one time next season, Weis needs to be put on a short leash. His first class should be able to compete with Ty's lesser talented classes next year. And he's making WAY too much money to get blown out with this frequency. I'm not at all panicking. But by the 3rd season, we should be able to play with anyone.

But, his play calling is becoming very predictable, therefore I am not happy.

I would be surprised if we win the NC before the 09-10 season. By then we will have 4 CW classes and JC will be a Junior on the way to a heisman the 1st overall selection in the NFL entry draft.

I would be surprise too. UNLESS we can get a defensive coordinator that knows what the hell theyre doing.
