ND is not back and it wont be back for at least another 2 years.

I'm sorry, but I am not ready to write all of them off yet. Carlson would help tremendously next year. Laws and Sullivan would help at positions where we don't have any backups with any experience. Zbikowski might be the only playmaker returning. Wooden might get schooled (which he did all day today), but I didn't see Walls do any better when he was in there. I think we need these players back.

I tend to agree w/ you. What irks me the most, is ND had all these top recruits come in & only Sam Young made a substantial impact this season (albeit w/ crappy linemates). I realize that CB is one of the hardest positions for freshmen (Walls & McNeil) to adapt to, but it's frustrating to see all the true freshman (they're even 18 yr old frosh; unlike clausen) on teams like USC come in and wrestle away starting positions from pretty damn good returning starters. Look at Taylor Mays, the true frosh safety at USC, he looked like a seasoned veteran vs. ND (which apparently isn't hard to do).

And the offense looked as bad as I've ever seen under Weis w/ the lone exception of Darius Walker. If memory serves, he didn't have that bad of a game vs. OSU in the Fiesta, either. Close to 100 yds?

Shit, if I was Charlie I'd use his postgame presser to say something to the effect of "If the players we're recruiting want to play early & often, all they had to do was watch this game, to realize the opportunity is here as early as their freshman season". Other than that, there's no way to spin that debacle.

Well it's far easier to do when you have other playermakers on the field to makeup for the lack of experience from a freshman.
Someone like Taylor Mays couldn't cover the whole field, so even if he was good enough to take care of business, other teams would've just exploited the other DB's.

Although Mays was just an example (b/c I know USC started more true freshmen that just him), you're right about needing other playmakers to pick up the slack & ND definitely lacks that.

Are any of the corners true corners? I know Wooden & Richardson starred on offensive side of ball in high school. what about Lambert? Then you got Ndukwe going from WR to LB to Safety and Travis Thomas switching from TB to LB in less than one year. How pathetic! I did hear, however; that Thomas will return for 5th year back at his original tailback position.

What really cracked me up with 8 min to go LSU just runs the ball to kill the clock. We STILL couldn't stop LSU and they drive 80 yards on the ground for another score. Hell, they did'nt even need a QB, they could have ran the ball all night and won. Our defense has to be one of the worst in D1 football. Even with a HUGE lack of athlete's on the D they are underacheiving which is the coach. Minter has to go, that's all there is to it.

Carlson yes, Zibby no. Zibby is way overrated. He plays like a LB, and provides no coverage support. He return game is the only thing that makes him look like a player. When he is back for another year, that will be the clear sign that the NFL doesn't think much of his skills yet.

Zbikowski/Playmaker? He is??? he was last year. What has he done this year? No interceptions, No punt return Tds, and not that many tackles. The only tackling he did was running after the players that burned us deep. He's not a playmaker. Carlson is the only one and laws that I want to keep. the rest can leave right along with minter.

And give Walls a break, 1) that was Cover 2 coverage and there was suppose to be safety help on that deep ball for a TD when he came into the game and 2) the kid is a freshman still learning and nevermind the fact that he hasn't played since the Purdue game playing one of the hardest positions in the game, in my opinion and if your complaining about the older guys, you better get use to seeing what happens when you do, because Walls is a prime example of what happens when you start younger guys at skilled positions.

Its a long learning process.

Yep, off with his head. No defense should be playing that poorly. Louisville's would have done better, WVU's would have done better, just about anyone's.

It was a combo of the athletes, the schemes and the teaching that Minter and his coaches have/haven't done. If we get a talented defense, and it doesn't play like a talented defense, fire Minter as quickly as you can. This is getting ridiculous. he is a joke on the program.

And on that note..... catch the fucking ball. Rhema and Jeff looked like patsies for most of the night. I recall at least 5-6 dropped balls, that were crucial, just like the USC game. One of them resulting in a INT, one of them negating a TD. It's sad that Brady can look like he was horrible when no one can make a play. Get him in the NFL so he can get some of the respect he deserves.

Great idea. and let's get rid of all the seniors-to-be (Mo Crum, Lambert, DWalk) too b/c they are Willingham players. and lets get rid of the juniors-to-be who committed to ND when Willingham was still coach (Grimes, Bruton, Herring, etc). what a genius idea!

are you serious? Just for the character of those seniors, I would keep them. Even if they were the worst players ever I would keep those guys. We're going to need them, and their leadership now more than ever.

I got the feeling one the play Walls got burned on, it was a zone Cover 2 with the CB and LBs responsible for the short zone and the safeties for over the top help. You can see he just stops after20 yards, like the CB next to him.

I think people are just upset and hurting about this latest loss to a top team and are taking it out in their various ways. But I would disagree with the original poster if only in this. Nd IS back, in that we are relavant again. Kids are wanting to come here, and we are a place that everyone is looking at again. A national championship doesn't mean a team is "back" it means the team HAS BEEN "back" for the last several years. NC's don't come out of the blue, and in the minds of recruits and the media, I think ND is very much back in the picture. When we win a NC sometime in the next few years, you'll know that we were back in the picture not then, but here and now.
