Harbaugh to become Stanford coach
Harbaugh to become Stanford coach

By JOSH DUBOW, AP Sports Writer
December 18, 2006

Stanford hired former NFL quarterback Jim Harbaugh to take over its struggling football program on Monday.

Harbaugh had spent the last three years as head coach at the University of San Diego, a non-scholarship Division I-AA program. He led the Toreros to a 29-6 record, winning 27 of his final 29 games at San Diego.

Now he has the tough task of turning around the Cardinal, who set a school record for losses in a 1-11 season this year that led to the firing of coach Walt Harris. Stanford has won just 16 games in the past five seasons under Harris and Buddy Teevens.

his San Diego team just played my friends Monmouth University team in a bowl game here in New Jersey and i went to see it. He's been quoted as saying his QB has the feet of troy smith, the arm of john elway, and the mind of rich gannon, whatever that means. The kid played well and they won, though Brady Quinn would have killed Monmouth by himself, probably even running for like 100 yards.

Harbaugh is a delusional asshole who had a 17 point lead with 2 minutes left and had all his starters in the game, throwing fades out of 5 wide sets. Stanford atleast deserves a classier coach.

In this day and age where pollsters aren't only looking for wins, but also looking for "style points", I don't think you can afford to be "classy". Now, one should never be an a-hole. But with the way the polls work, you almost need to keep trying to win big even when the game is in hand.

Didn't Lou Holtz tell an opposing coach that "it's not my job to stop my offense, it's yours"?

Actually it was Bobby Bowden who said this when Joe paterno whined about FSU running up the score on Penn St.

it was the final game of the season in a Bowl Game against an opponent they'll never play again. It would have been fitting if he got his star QB injured having him drop back to throw a bomb against a team that was rightfully pissed at this insult of trying to score again.

Trying to impress the polls? What for the next year? Probably. Especially since he wanted out of there. Maybe he was trying to impress Stanford. Guy's a dick.

Penn State and PSU have only played 3 times and the games were all close, never decided by more than a TD. It couldn't have been Joe Pa whining about Bowden running up the score on him. It could have been Joe Pa whining about FSU running up the score on other oppnents, but not PSU.
