Blue and Gold game

Well, lots of people sound like they were impressed with the playcalling and felt Quinn looked really good. Fasano and the runningbacks also impressed a few commentators. I wasn't there, but I would appreciate some discussion from those who were.

Also, the new 'The Shirt' shirts are really gross.

There were 23,324 people there today for the Blue Gold game. Pretty good considering the temps outside.

At least we know that the projected starters can beat the backups. This is a start. I pray that no one on the offensive line, secondary or linebacking core gets injured.

Fasano will win the Mackey Award over whoever Miami has at tight end this year.

I wasn't there but I was wondering if anyone could answer my question. What formation did we primarily run out of while on 1st team offense?

For starters I was glad to Zorich and Montana as an honorary coaches. Zorich wasn’t too happy with the way ND handled Willingham and Montana was on the Clements bandwagon. The various factions that arose out of the Willingham firing seem to be united again. It is tough to have a successfully program if off of the field former players - and respected players at that - are griping about the coaching staff and university bosses.

As for performance, I only read the stats. Things stood out -
1. No turnovers - no fumbles by Blue.
2. Quinn completed 8 passes to 5 players
3. Stovall wasn’t one of those players. I hate to say this but I don’t see Stovall flourishing under Weis. He doesn’t strike me as a CW kinda guy. If I were to describe Stovall by comparison I would say Freddie Mitchell. I hope I’m wrong.
4. I didn’t see any penalties on Blue offense

Judging from the interviews I have heard/read, Weis seems content with the progress.

I was in the stands - it's tough to tell at a scrimmage how much progress they've made. The blue team really beat up on the gold team, though, despite the fact that the rules were slanted in favor of the gold. A few things I thought were worth noting...

Walker looked good, of course, but I thought Travis Thomas worked pretty hard while he was in.

Quinn hit some great passes - a couple to Fasano and one to McKnight that was a phenomenal grab. (Nice to see after McKnight had gotten laid out flat on a pretty good hit earlier in the game).

I PRAY Quinn stays healthy. IMO, we didn't appear to produce a viable back-up in spring practice....

The Blue team's defensive line seemed to get a lot of penetration. Had they been able to tackle the gold quarterback, he would have left the game with a LOT of grass stains on his back.

Our gold team secondary was horrible. Would it be wishful thinking to hope that Quinn was actually that good, instead of the gold team being that bad?

ND is not very deep. I would think that the Gold team was very horrible for that reason. If Quinn can't pick apart the second string secondary, they're in for trouble.

I would expect the incoming freshmen DBs to get HEAVY reps this year. No time for redshirting in that area. The time is now.
