I'm boycotting Tom Cruise movies until he drops Katie Holmes.

I like all 4 Lethal Weapon movies

Mad Max

The Patriot

Indiana Jones trilogy

Braveheart #1 - Is that considered action? I think so

Point Break

You can't spell "action" without Keanu. Well, you can, but I would not.

BTW, did you know Hammer was up for Keanu's role in Speed after his appearance on The Real World? His auditions with Sandra left something to be desired and the rest is history, as they say.

I can't help but think the Lethal Weapon series would've benefitted by having Joe Pesci in the main role and Mel in a supporting role. Come on, Mel as an unbalanced alcoholic perpetually on the edge of violence and self-destruction just isn't believable.

Heat - that shootout in downtown LA speaks for itself.

The cinematography is wonderful--one mimicked by many others, I do believe. Acting, wonderful. It's just a wonderfully done movie that is able to implement spendidly action-filled scenes without making them gratuitous at all. Probably one of the best movies of all time, regardless of genre.

I'd agree that this would be the best sequence....but I would go with Die Hard for the best overall movie.......Another movie that will not get mention, but that I thought was good, and had some of the best car scenes, was Ronin.....

I'm an idiot for even forgetting about Heat, by far the best action movie.

Michael Mann is one of the best directors out there.

Black Hawk Down is another kick ass movie by him, so put that up there as a great action movie,

The Insider is another fine movie by Mann.

Actually playing on TNT as we speak...LOTR:The Two Towers is amazing. That's got to be up high on the list.

Heat is a great action movie, however when i think of what qualifies as the best I think more along the lines of a Die Hard 1, 2 or 3. If you added the total time in action sequences in Heat it would be maybe 30 minutes or so. Die hard is action beginning to end.

AMC has been showing Commando with Ah-nold Schwartzenneggar. I loved that movie as a kid, but watching it now just takes the excitement out of it. what was the other action movie with Arnold and the guy from the Best Damn Sports Show? that had some great action sequences.

That's part of the reason Heat is so good--it's not just shoot-'em-up, blow-'em-up without much of a good story, characters, or good acting. The action is contextualized within a compelling context. Personally, I don't like action movies that are just that:action. It becomes meaningless, and therefore, less compelling.

what the hell was I thinking about?

Thought for sure he did Black Hawk Down, chalk that up to a brain fart, but still a great action flick.

I'll throw a couple more of his out there for action flicks, Collateral and Last of the Mohicans

Speaking of Ridley Scott, his brother Tony directed one of my all-timers: The Last Boy Scout.
