I am a lifelong Cubbie fan, I know its been rough.Things are looking up this year with the front office spending some serious cash bring in Soriano, DeRosa, and re-signing Ramirez. They are in the final 2 for Ted Lilly and will also probably sign Gil Meche. Combine these 2 with Big Z and Hill and thats a pretty good rotation. Prior hopefully will be ready and there are talks of Wood moving into the closers role.

Two years ago they drafted Mark Pawelek from Springville Utah and this kid is insane. I have seen him pitch in person a few times, our team almost played theirs in the playoffs but we lost, which is a good thing because his ERA was 0.0, not a run the whole year. I sat behind a Padres scout for a state playoff game and he was hitting 95, 96. Pitchers always add a few MPH in the minors with help on their technique. The kid was easily the best pitcher the state of Utah has ever seen, and believe it or not we have actually had some good ones, and he should be a good one for you Cubs fans in a few years.

they also picked up a good lefty out of the bullpen in Neal Cotts from the White Sox. He was unhittable in 2005.

Hey Untitled u really think u guys are gonna sign Zito? I wouldn't recommend spending 100 million on a guy who's e.r.a is 4. He is very over rated. The Cubs will be solid and I am very excited to see how this team can play.

Zito's career ERA is 3.55, but I agree on not spending 100 mil on him.

Yeah well try 15 years as a Mets fan in Braves country!

I didn't notice you were from Georgia. I hate to say it but the Mets are really good. Reyes is one of my favorite non-Braves players. I wish he was in South Bend running streaks all game long.

Wow 10 mil a year for Lilly, dude just hit the lottery. 4.60 lifetime ERA. Theres a lesson to learn here, teach your sons to throw left handed, and someday they'll support you.

Yeah Reyes is the fastest man I've ever seen run in person, I'd love to get a 40 time on him.

Zito will go to the Rangers... I am a cubbies fan too. Raised torn between the two cubs but parted ways when Robin left. Been a Cubbie fan since. Toronto may be in the biddings with Meche but if the get Lilly Id be content. Z-Hill-Lilly-Marshall-Prior/Cotts/Young Arm...

Lilly is good. We needed a starting pitcher badly. Yea, he had a 4.60 era but he is effective lefty who will eat up a lot of innings for us. His era should come down some too due to the National League and pitching in Wrigley. For some reason everybody thinks its a hitters park because of the wind. In reality the wind almost always blows in and helps the pitchers. I'm really excited about this coming year and feel that we will definetly give the Cards a run for their money barring injury. Our bullpen is great and our lineup should be potent with Soriano, Lee, and Ramirez. Ouch.

Yeah I like Lilly, but baseball is killing itself pitchers like Lilly and Adam Eaton getting over 8 mil a season. We'll be paying 80 bucks to sit in the upper deck before you know it.

All I know is that it is high time that this organization make a run at it. I read somewhere that the cubs have like the third or second highest revenue out of all MLB. There's no salary cap so I say...BUY EM ALL!!!!

slightly OT from where the thread is going but...

I have indeed noticed that a lot of the posters here are Chicago sports fans judging from the icons alone...

Ted Lilly is a .500 pitcher.

More false hope from the Chicago Tribune and their beer selling machine.

According to Baseball Prospectus, Alfonso Soriano projects to add 1 win to the 2007 Cubs. One.

Thank God I was raised a White Sox fan. The Cubs always make sexy moves that never pan out. I almost feel bad for you, almost. I don't understand why it seems that Cubs players are always injured. Who is the strength and conditioning coach or head trainer who looks after these guys because they should be fired.

Ken Williams is one of the five best GMs in baseball.

Jim Hendry is one of the five worst.

Ted Lilly has never thrown 200 innings in a season and just came off of a career high in victories, which for starting pitchers is an overrated stat.

All the Cubs did was drive up the price for Mark Buehrle in a year. Hence, the Sox might end up trading him before July.

KW is the man. Jigga, did you see this. I got this from the white sox official website.

By sending Freddy Garcia to the Phillies in exchange for right-handed pitcher Gavin Floyd and left-handed pitcher Gio Gonzalez, who officially is classified as the player to be named until Thursday afternoon, the White Sox removed an integral piece from one of their greatest moments in franchise history in order to ensure continued future success. Garcia, 30, was coming off of a 17-9 season for the White Sox, a 33-start, 216 1/3-inning effort which saw him finish with a flourish.

Ok, I think KW is a good GM...but you can't like the Garcia move. For what pitchers are going for this year in free agency, you would think he could have gotten a lot more for a 17 game winner last year.

I am not upset with the Cubs paid Lilly. Unfortunately, that is what the pitchers are going for this offseason. I don't think Hendry is one of the best GM's in baseball...but I wouldn't put him the 5 worst! Hell, Padilla went for 11 million a year and Meche is close to getting that as well. Zito is going to break the bank.

I like the trade. The White Sox had to make room for B McCarthy and Floyd will help out this year as well. The key is Gonzalez; he was a huge part of the Thome deal last year and the Sox wanted him back. They could have gotten Floyd and Rowand but they wanted Gonzalez.
