I sent the douche this email:

Mr. Tucker,

Did you get paid to write that hack job? A Rutgers team that lost to an unranked 7-5 Cincinnati team deserves to go to a BCS game over a team that was beaten by the #2 & #3 teams in the country (one of which will play for the National Championship)? Why, because they beat overrated Lousville & WVU (assuming they beat WVU)? Brilliant...

Notre Dame is overrated huh? Who exactly has Michigan beaten then (Notre Dame? You mean that overrated team?) Seems to me they struggled against that powerhouse from the
MAC, Ball State as much as ND did vs MSU.

And what quality win does media darlings, Boise State have? Not a single ranked opponent on their schedule. What's their marquee win? Hawaii? Really? More impressive than ND beating Ga. Tech?

Wisconsin? Biggest win....Penn State (whom Notre Dame destroyed before my very eyes).

Oklahoma? Played one team in the top 10 (Texas) and lost (blown out might be a better
description). The other top 20 team they played, Oregon...another loss. Ah but they beat mighty Missouri and Texas A&M. Yeah, they surely deserve a BCS game more than ND.

And what about ND's "soft" schedule (you know, with all 3 service academies)? According to Jeff Sagarin, Notre Dame’s strength of schedule(19) ranks higher than other potential BCS teams Boise State(99) , Louisville(31), Arkansas(49), and Rutgers(63). The Irish even have a stronger SOS than Ohio St(36.)

The bottom line is, all these teams that will be complaining come Sunday evening had a guaranteed spot in the BCS and blew it....because they didn't win their conference. That was the guarantee that their conference heads bargained for. Don't hold it against Notre Dame that they fulfilled their requirements and now will be rewarded for it.

Thank God for the Internet...I didn't have to pay a cent to read your article.

Sincerely,

Me

Sounds like the writer has a case of Irish envy.

Good rebuttal Getty

I don't really care if they don't like us either, but don't go spouting BS and expect not to be called on it. If no one points out crap to him, he might think he has a valid point.

All the bowls are out to try and make money, and ND just happens to be a cash cow. It's not our fault we're so popular (or hated) and everyone wants to tune in or buy tickets.

Since when did anyone turn down millions of dollars to allow Rutgers to go to a BCS game?

I got a reply from John Tucker! I'll give him props for that, unlike the 2 weasels on the left coast I wrote to after they kept voting West Virginia #1:

I don't recollect bashing ND at all in my column... I don't hold its arrangement with the BCS against the Irish, though I don't think it's quite fair. The main point was ND gets some pretty special deals no other team gets, but I pretty much left it to the reader to decide whether they think that's right. I clearly pointed up what Notre Dame brings to the table in terms of marketability and what that means to the bowls and to TV. Whether that justifies the special deals, that's wherein the debate lies. I only flushed it out. Thanks for reading The Unbalanced Line.
