Bobby Petrino is an ass.

regardless of anything petrino ever accomplishes, he will always be a slime for taking trips and talking to Auburn while Auburn still had a coach (who he had had a job under as an assistant). Talk about stab in the back.

I'm missing something. Clotho pulls out the "Purdue and PSU were a few dropped passes from being in it with the Irish" and then shoots down the argument that we were in it until the last few minutes against tOSU last year. It doesn't go both ways. If you use logic like you did to define how mediocre ND is, don't bash someone who uses the lame logic to define why ND isn't deserving of your criticism.

Also, you say that since BSU beat OrSU which beat USC (a slippery slope to go down regardless, but you went down it, face first), can't the same be said for our win over UCLA who also beat USC? Granted we didn't "blow out" UCLA but we still won, so what's your point? Let me take a shot at your rationale:

We beat Purdue pretty handily (by the score, at least) yet Purdue barely squeaked by a Hawaii team that barely got beat by BSU. Therefore, BSU isn't very strong.

Regardless, you incite people for "homerism" when... drumroll please, YOU'RE ON AN ND FOOTBALL FORUM FOR GOD'S SAKES. What did you think you were going to find here? It's fine to be realistic, I think most people are on here... they tend to get a little hyperbole going but that's to be expected, isn't it? By doing what you do in response to "homer posts" you don't change anyone's opinion of ND, you just make yourself look like an obnoxious prick. Whether you are or aren't, so be it. But it's comical that you get so riled up about the posts here and then bitch about it like the other posters are the idiots.

Todd.

I've ignored Clotho ever since I became a member. But let's get a few things straight, since I've read some of his posts when people quoted him.

Boise St. isn't a bad team. Boise St. is a very average team that has played consistently below average competition. I've seen them play quite a few games. They beat team because they are basically just more talented than them. Linemen push over other teams' DL, that running back goes wild, end of story.

Trust me, their linemen wouldn't stack up against most lines in the top 25.

And in terms of Clotho thinking ND is over-rated. Here is something to think about. There are not 10 really strong teams in CFB this year. Just about every team has looked ridiculously mediocre for a couple games, if not more. Florida definitely has. USC definitely has, LSU definitely has (3 points against Auburn?), Louisville has, etc. etc. etc.

And so had Notre Dame.

SO this year isn't one of those scenarios where Notre Dame is over-rated because they are screwing everyone over. Notre Dame is sitting right about where they should. I don't think we are elite, by any means. But by the same token, there just aren't 10, or even 5 elite teams out there.

Petrino needs to learn where his status is as a coach, and know that ND will always be better than the teams he coaches

It's probably good that he has me on ignore, because otherwise he'd have to read this post where I ask him to reconcile his stupid post, quoted above, with the fact that Boise State manhandled Oregon State.

Oregon State lost to Washington State who lost to Washington who lost to Stanford who lost to Navy who lost to Tulsa who lost to SMU who lost to North Texas.

Therefore, Clotho... by your reasoning...

North Texas (standing at a healthy 3-9 record and next to last in the SUN BELT) could easily destroy Oregon State, and hence, USC.

College football isn't high school algebra. Just because A > B and B > C doesn't mean that A > C.

Uhhhhhhhhhh what big wins does ND have?

I hate to break it to you guys, but here's what the latest polls say:

ND has played #3 and #7/8. ND got destroyed by both of those teams. ND has no wins against ranked teams.

Boise State has played #24/25, and destroyed them.

The real question isn't what makes me think Boise State could hang with ND, but rather, what makes ND fans think we can hang with Boise State? We have no resume. None. We're 0-2 against the top 25, with two blowout losses. They're 1-0 against the top 25, with a blowout win.

They're ahead of us in both polls. On what are we basing the assumption that we'd beat them? Our recruiting rankings?

there is a drastic difference between the #3 and #8 and #24 and #25. that is a very weak argument.

Furthermore, if I am not mistaken UCLA slipped into the latst BCS poll at # 25 so, technically, we have beaten a top 25 team

And Georgia Tech is Ranked #25 in the Coaches poll. So that's 2 ranked teams.
