The worst part about the whole thing is the fact that the a lot of those Giant fans that want Charlie keep spelling it Weiss.

Here's my thinking ont he Weis to the Giants talk: Great!

Really, I think it's good that this is coming up now. Opposing coaches are no doubt using Weis to the NFL as recruiting fodder. Lord knows other fans are spouting it. What does that say to you? It says fear. It says, "We can't stop him from winning at ND but the NFL can."

Weis will continue to be a hot candidate for NFL jobs, let's face it. If any NFL job has ever worried me in regards to Charlie, it is the Giants. He's from Jersey, he's coached there and he's in tight with the ownership and management. This is it, folks. This is the threat.

Now that job may open up. If it does, you know they are going to show him some love and some money. We all hope he turns it down. Most of us think he will.

What will it say when Charlie Weis turns down a buttload of money to coach his beloved Giants? It will say, "See? I told you I'm not leaving Notre Dame."

If the Giants can't lure him away, nobody can. And then all the baseless rumors and negative recruiting based on that topic will either dry up or just sound downright silly.

This was going to continue to be a thorn in ND's side. Facing the Giants job now should shut it up for good.

I don't think the Giants job will be open. John Clayton, sorry about the ESPN reference, said that Coughlin isn't going anywhere.

I doubt the Giants sack Coughlin this year. With the injuries they've had on defense it's no wonder they're struggling. Losing your top 3 defensive ends and having to start a rookie and a tackle there will do that to you. Plus the offense lost Pettigout and Toomer halfway through the year. I think Coughlin has done ok this year. They started strong and then fell apart with all the injuries. Giants fans can be nuts but I don't think Coughlin is the problem here.

Weis has an out in his contract for the Giant job according to Mike Francesa. Mike Francesa is close with Parcells, and Weis so I doubt he'd make that up.

Couughlin will get at least another year though, it was basically Wellington Mara's dying wish to have Coughlin coach the Giants.

The world will all know what we have come to know the last 2 years...Weis keeps his word, when he says "I aint going anywhere" he actually means it. His plans are as follows...

1) Win a National Championship at ND
2) Win a National Championship at ND
3) See number 1 and 2
4) Retire after his son graduates from ND
5) Move to South Carolina and relax

Good post nayers.

The world will find out what we already know. Weis is a man of his word, he's stated many times that he's staying put. He hasn't given anyone reason to believe something other than what comes from his mouth is the truth.

First off, I don't think Coughlin's going anywhere unless the wheels just completely fall of and the Giants finish 7-9 or 6-10. But barring that, he has had a lot of injuries to deal w/, and more importantly he was Wellington Mara's boy, so I think John Mara will give him a lot of slack out of respect for his father before he ever lets him go. Ntm, Ernie Accorsi is retiring at the end of the season (thank God!) so there'll already be some front office turmoil, and I dunno if they'll want to add a coaching switch to it if they can avoid it.

But all that said, there are a few teams that if a coaching vacancy ever came up I'd be worried about Weis leaving, and the Giants are at the very top of the list. The other big one to me is the Patriots. If either of those jobs open up, I could see him leaving. And if either of those jobs openned up after Weis had already won a NC at South Bend, then I could really see him leaving.

I know he says he's never leaving, but I've learned its pointless to take any coach at their word w/ that anymore. I mean, I'm sure he means it now, but 2 years from now? 5 years from now? Who knows? He did and interview w/ Mike Francesa & Chris Russo awhile back and they were talking about this, and even though he kept saying "I'm not leaving" Francesa & Russo both basically said they believe he means it now, but that they've learned never to bet on it w/ coaches, and even Charlie said, chuckling, "Weeeeeell, I can't predict the future...." or something like that. So I mean, even he knows things might change and he might want to take a shot in the pros someday.

You never know, but because of his son and his ties and love of the school, he's probably a safer bet than most.

Not that I want Charlie to leave, but I'm not sure their problems are too far beyond coaching. Some of it is personel, I don't doubt that. They need to get some of these guys who talk too much off the team.

But at the same time, I don't think Coughlin's doing much to make it better. His playcalling isn't good (and at times its atrocious). He sends terrible messages to his team by saying things in the media like, in the same sentance, "I don't want my players throwing each other under the bus or criticizing each other in the press" and "Eli's throwing too many interceptions. He can't throw an interception in that spot (Titans game)." He's WAY too attached to Chad Morton-there's at least 3 guys on the team who could do a better job returning kicks than him. And he's married to a very mediocre defensive coordinator, imo.

Honestly, if this team misses the playoffs I hope they do fire him. They probly won't unless the team finishes 7-9 or 6-10, but if they miss the playoffs at 8-8 they should consider it.

I saw that same interview with Mike and the Mad Dog( the one for his book), and Weis jokingly said I reserve the right to change my mind(in regards to taking an NFL job, and what college coaches usually say when jumping to the NFL). But in talking about staying at ND in that interview Weis didn't sound very convincing IMO, maybe its becase he's tired of answering that question.

Personally I think he stays until he at least wins 1 NC, no way will he leave before winning a NC, but after that if the right job opens up I'd be worried. He has that out clause in his contract for the Giant Job, and the Mara's are big ND fans(Wellington's Grandson is a coach on Weis' staff) not to mention Weis was the second choice behind Coughlin.

I honestly believe he is tired of answering the question about it. When answering the question at one of his press conferences he had to start by saying "how many times do I have to say it" and when he says he is here till they fire me or till I die, I think that is pretty clear that he is here at ND till he then. I love the talk, I am in total agreement with Scooper's post, this NFL talk is nothing but good news for CW and ND.

I'd bet my life that Weis won't pull a Gary Barnet on us and leave out of nowhere when he has been saying that he is here for the long haul.

Yeah, I'd pretty much agree w/ all that.

Personally, I think if the decision had been totally up to Ernie Accorsi, Weis would be the New York Giants head coach right now. But Wellington really loved Coughlin, and Accorsi probably figured Tom's pedigree wasn't too bad either, so why not?

And which coach is in the Mara family?
