Hey, I just wanted to make an offer to all of you on this board.

If you're thinking about coming to the Sugar Bowl, and you have any questions or concerns about visiting New Orleans, I'll do my best to answer/address them.

I work in the local media, so I'm pretty well connected as to what's going on. If I don't know the answer to your question, I likely know someone who does.

I'm from Michigan originally. But I've lived here in NO for years now, save for my 9 post-Katrina months in Miami. Been back since June.

My favorite city on earth. I was born there (mom and dad went to Loyola). I have not been back since Katrina, though I have a number of friends who keep me updated. What part of the city did (and do) you line in?

Have you ever been to Clancy's (nice restaurant)?

When I first came to NO, I lived on Henry Clay, near Children's Hospital, about two blocks from Clancy's. I've been there several times. Fantastic food and atmosphere.

I live in the Lower Garden District now, near where Magazine St switches from being a one-way to a two-way street. I lived here since before Katrina. My house didn't suffer any damage. I had to leave after the storm because my job permanently moved to Miami.

Did O'Flaherty's ever reopen after Katrina? It was on Toulouse. I spent many an evening there singing Irish tunes til the wee hours over a pint or two.

Nope. Danny Flaherty moved to Lafayette or Lake Charles or something like that.

I like the Kerry, at 331 Decatur (couple blocks from the House of Blues, if you know where that is). The music isn't Irish per se, more like general folk music, but they have the occasional session. And, of course, the Guiness and Harp.

OK, Maison. Going to take you up on this...I will be there with my wife for 4 nights (1st through the 5th - can't make New Year's Eve as I will be at the Green Bay - vs - Bears game). Anyway, we will be staying a few blocks off of Bourbon. What are your recommendations for dining, nightlife (nothing overly wild) and possibly tours? Also, should we rent a car or simply cab it from the airport? Thanks for the help in advance.

Thanks for the offer. Always good to have a native guide (or a reasonable facsimile). I lived there for about four months when I was the ripe old age of three and returned once in the mid-90's during my under-grad days for Mardi Gras. Soooo, I obviously don't know much about the real NO. First question: What's the hotel situation these days as compared to pre-Katrina? Is there gonna be a lot of difficulty finding a place to flop?

Dining: There's so many great places. In the French Quarter, I like a restaurant called the Gumbo Shop as a place to start, if you're new to Creole food. Cafe du Monde for beignets and coffee. I also like Paul Prudhomme's restaurant, K-Paul's. And one more: Irene's Cuisine, also in the Quarter.... Actually, if you go to this message board, you can find just about anything about eating in NO.

Nightlife: My favorite place to go out is called Frenchman Street. There are small bars, a couple of jazz clubs--it's a lot more civilized than Bourbon St.. I like clubs called the Spotted Cat and another called "dba". Frenchman is an easy walk from the Quarter, or a short cab ride.

Tours: I would plan on taking a tour of the Garden District. It's a short cab ride from the Quarter. It's one of the most remarkable parts of New Orleans. There are also fascinating cemetery tours--they bury them above ground here. P.S. I would not recommend the Swamp Tour--it's a lot of fun in the warmer month, but the alligators hibernate in the winter.

Rent a car: If it's just for getting to and from the airport, I'd look into a hotel shuttle or take a cab. If you want to go to Cajun Country or to River Road (plantations up near Baton Rouge), then you might want a rent a car. You can walk to the Superdome from Bourbon Street.

Anything else? Just ask...

don't get ahead of yourself jersey... he doesn't have that kind of pull in the company yet. Besides, he'll just loan you one of his Escalades given to him from some Bucknut Boosters

NEVER underestimate Troy. The kid is just a winner. He'll make the discount happen. And you don't get into the Enterprise Management Trainee Program(EMTP) by "loaning" cars. He'll get you into his Escalade for $49.99 per day though. THAT'S a deal.
