I agree 100%. The fact they didn't punish those kids after the whole Florida Atlantic incident was proof enough for me that they're a complete and utter joke. Coker was fighting a losing battle no matter what he did that... it's just the level of human being they recruit.
I think I have to take this back.

Coker was on the Dan Patrick show today and said the punishments handed out by Miami were fair and he didn't think they deserved anything more. Either this was the biggest lip services I've seen in some time, or he believed it.

It was an interesting interview to say the least.

I'm surprised this hiring is taking so long. You know they've known he was going to be gone for awhile now. I think they really thought they'd get Butch Davis and are now stuck with their wheels spinning.

But, a similar situation worked out for ND. We shall see.

Ya gotta believe they're waiting on Schiano.
Probably will know more after Saturday's finale.
The ball is definitely in Greg's court.

I'd be shocked if they didn't hire Randy Shannon. He's right in front of their nose and he is the guy that makes the Miami machine go on defense. He's also one of the best recruiters in the nation, too.

Schiano is nuts if he leaves Rutgers and goes to Miami. Now, anyway.

They still have to pay Coker from what I've read, plus they will have to fire and pay the A.D. The facilities are crap and the program is tailspinning out of control.

Other jobs will be out there for Schiano. I hope he doesn't take this one.

I don't think he will. I keep reading that he truly does love the Rutgers job and realizes he has a fertile Jersey area right in his backyard. Combine that with his Florida ties, and he can recruit very easy... plus Rutgers has some pretty lax restrictions that makes recruiting a lot easier for him.

I think that's why they're taking the time with their coaching selection.

The same things were being said before Butch Davis came to Miami. The program was out of control, the inmates ran the asylum, etc. etc.

Recruiting Miami is easy. They don't have to travel very far out of their back yard, and the major numbers of guys they've put into the NFL are all real good selling points.

The best hiring might be a relative unknown, but a guy with a controlling, steady hand. As "player-friendly" as Davis seemed, he was the top dog at that school, and the players knew it. You didn't get that feeling with Coker.

Not to mention, Davis rebuilt Miami while Florida and Florida St. were at the top of their game, making the job he did even more impressive.

Right now it seems Urbie's crew will be the biggest roadblock for Florida supremacy.

As much as I don't like any of the big 3 FL teams, it's fun to watch the in state power struggle ebb and flow.

Half of my graduating class went to Rutgers. It is a weird school. It is made of of multiple campus' that all have different admissions requirements. The main campus has fairly tough admissions requirements but some of the nearby campus' are very easy to get into. It's hard to explain. For the athletic department though, it's great. They could take some pretty dumb kids if they wanted to.

Miami officials and Schiano are meeting today to offer him, so probably by the end of today we'll know whether or not Schiano will be leaving Rutgers for the canes.

According to an update on WFAN, Schiano is staying at Rutgers

Though I wouldn't mind seeing Schiano leave for somewhere else. Charlie owns Jersey, yes, but we don't need Rutgers becoming a viable option for the state's top kids.

Thank God.

I really like Schiano. This would have been career suicide. He's already done one building job. Not the best move for him at this point of his career. I wouldn't touch Miami with a ten foot pole.

Other jobs, including Miami, will open again down the road.

Shannon makes the most sense, for various reasons. Including finacially.

He could retain most of Coker's staff, thus preventing a recruiting overhaul.

I wonder where retaining the staff would really get them, though. That group wasn't Coker's responsibility alone.

Agreed.

Shannon and pick and choose who he wants to stay, then fill in the gaps with his own people.

That program is on a major down swing right now.

Its humorous to watch though. I'm loving this situation with Miami.

What about Rodriguez from WV?

Randy Shannon is the guy. He just needs a good offensive coordinator.

RichRod isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

He's happy being the head coach at his alma mater. I remember reading somewhere that the guy eats in the WVU dining hall every day for dinner.

He's a very quiet, humble person and I don't see him leaving Morgantown for the bright lights of Miami or any other high profile job anytime in the near future.

I used to think this, but after that Eastern Washington game he strikes me as kind of a dick.

He was laughing at them and rubbing their noses in it during a blowout, a I-AA team no less. The entire roster played that day for WVU and he was a real prick in his presser afterward. He was chest bumping with his players against Pitt, too, something that is rather Poodle-esque if you ask me.

He's done a great job there...White and Slaton were great finds. I just don't care for him very much anymore. Was disappointed Rutgers couldn't pull it out Saturday night.

I haven't thought much of RR since he cried about ND taking Big East bowl slots that ND was responsible for the BE securing anyway.

Until the stuff was talked about recently, I did not realize how bad Miami's facilities were. I knew the OB was a dump, but figured they had high end practice and workout facilities. Hope this turns into a ND basketball coach search...Big names and hope early to mid level stretch in the end.
