SOUTH BEND, Ind. Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn was named the winner of the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award tonight. The award is given each year to the top senior quarterback in college football.

Quinn also was named the Irish M-V-P for this season.

At the annual team banquet tonight, other award winners included Ryan Harris, the top offensive lineman; and tight end John Carlson, the student-athlete of the year.

Yea figures they will do anything to hold out on ND but once some Miami player committes a crime or gets suspended which we have come to expect every year that is front line news.

Sexy avatar notwithstanding, my congratulations go out to Quinn. The next QB at ND has a lot to live up to. I love that kid.

Talk about a well deserved award...

God, wouldn't it be funny to see him win the Heisman now? Troy Smith would shit.

It could happen. If the Heisman voters take into consideration that Brady has not taken money from boosters and someone else has "not saying any names though". :)

Congrats to Quinn.
I wouldn't be surprised if he swept all the QB awards and lost the Heisman. Go figure.

Personally, I feel that once you've been suspended by the NCAA for violating rules such as accepting benefits from a booster, you should never be allowed to win any college awards such as the Heisman. Then again, I thought when you got paid, you became a professional and no longer an amateur... but hey, what do I know?

I'm glad to see Brady win at least one award over Troy Smith. As far as pure quarterbacks go Brady is far better than Smith(aka kordell stewart jr.)

That's because they were too busy sucking off Mr. Cell Phone on Game Day today. Can't wait until he is a bust in the NFL.
I turned Gameday off when they did the Smith teaser...no way I was gonna watch that crap. Still....no mention of the Unitas award on ESPN's page at this point. That's just friggin' irresponsible. "Worldwide Leader" my ass.

If Smith had won the Unitas, how much play would that get on ESPN?

They would break into live action to announce it, is my guess.

I heard once Troy heard the Heisman doesn't come with a cash prize, he was nolonger interested in making the trip to NY.

The NFL draft will show what people really think...he IS the best. Brian Brohm is probably the next best pure dropback passer.

This ESPN thing has been eating at me so I fired off an email to them :)

Dear Morons,

How is it that Brady Quinn was awarded the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award in South Bend, Friday night yet there was (and continues to be no) mention of it on either your front page or even the college football home page? I have to believe that had Troy Smith from Ohio State been given the award, this would not be the case.

Makes one wonder if ESPN might be playing some publicity games with respect to the Heisman voters. "Worldwide Leader in Sports", my foot.

Yeah, so I called em morons....3 days later, still no mention of Quinn winning the award.
