He should have never left Pitt. The Big East was on the verge of losing Miami, BC and Va. Tech. He was recruiting well at Pitt. If he stayed, he was in position to possibly dominate in the Big East, with a BCS berth 3 out of every 4 years.
I know he left for money and the lure of the Pac 10. But sometimes the best trade is the one you don't make. If he stayed at Pitt for several more seasons, gone to several more BCS bowls, he would have had better options than Stanford. Hey, Stanford is great school for academics and athletics. But when it comes to football, I don't think we'll see another Bill Walsh come from there anytime soon. More Willinghams than Walshes for sure.
