It just came across ESPNEWS. The Rose bowl has said that LSU will be playing either UM, or USC, and LSU is already underway selling tickets. This means that ND is now a virtual lock for the Sugar against the SEC champion.

man, they just gonna screw either arkansas or florida out like that?
florida wins saturday,i guess they both (UF and LSU) get to go.Arkansas wins,i guess that leaves florida out and they beat lsu pretty good.Another better loose early then late scenarios.

I could be a big fan of playoffs, but it would have to be a VERY GOOD system of seeding the teams to win me over. There also would have to be a certain amount of bias to the seeding too.A more of a season to season thing and who has played who,not so much of where everyone is in the rankings.
There is bias in the system that we have now so why not bias in a playoff?

Best option for the Irish. We beat either Florida or Arkansas. It'll be good to get a BCS bowl win and stop the crap about Charlie not beating top team.

There was an article on espn.com in regards to LSU fans buying Rose Bowl tickets because they believed they were going to the Rose Bowl. HOwever, there was a Rose Bowl committee member who said that the committee would not meet until Sunday to decide who was going to play in the Rose Bowl because they want to see how USC - UCLA pans out.

I'll post the article so you don't have to give ESPN hits to their web-site...

BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU fans are buying Rose Bowl tickets in droves, gobbling up 32,000 pre-sale orders at $135 per ticket even though their Tigers have not yet been officially invited to the game.

Baton Rouge television station WAFB reported that No. 5 LSU will play in the Rose Bowl presented by Citi on Jan. 1 in Pasadena, Calif. The station, citing information from a member of the Rose Bowl Board who spoke on the condition of anonymity, reported the Tigers will play either Michigan or Southern California.

"That's not true," Rose Bowl CEO Mitch Dorger told the Shreveport Times on Wednesday night. "We have not made any final decisions at all. I think some people have gone out on a limb and are making assumptions. We will make our decision on Sunday."

LSU athletic director Skip Bertman also would not confirm the report.

But none of that seemed to matter to LSU fans itching for a trip to Pasadena. More than 16,000 tickets for the Rose Bowl were pre-sold between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday night, LSU ticket manager Brian Broussard told the Shreveport Times, bringing the total of LSU Rose Bowl pre-sales to 32,000.

The school said on its athletics Web site that it is also taking orders for the FedEx Orange Bowl and the Capital One Bowl. On its athletics Web site, the school said it has 19,500 ticket requests for the Orange Bowl and another 17,000 for the Capital One Bowl.

LSU, which went 10-2 in the regular season but finished tied for second in the Southeastern Conference West Division, would become the first SEC team to play in the Rose Bowl since Alabama in 1946.

If the second-ranked Trojans beat UCLA on Saturday, they almost certainly would finish second in the Bowl Championship Series standings and play No. 1 Ohio State in the national championship game in Glendale, Ariz., on Jan. 8.

A USC victory would also relegate third-ranked Michigan to the Rose Bowl, where it was thought the Wolverines might get a rematch with No. 12 Notre Dame.

Yeah, I think, if people would have said, have your choice of top programs that you feel like you can beat, and it would mean a lot to the program, 9/10 people would have said Florida, especially considering how they have been playing lately.

This will be one hell of a fun game to watch :)

The Urban Meyer turned down Notre Dame crap would be almost unbearable leading up to the game though.

New Orleans....man that is definitely driveable. So tempting. But I've spent so much money this year going out to ND. Dang! Wait a minute....it'll be 2007, won't it. New budget! :)

Just know that Michigan fans will support you if you play Florida.

Urban Meyer is ticking time bomb. This guy literally argues like a dictator. All this pathetic SEC supremacy crap is lodged in his head. He conveniently calls for a rule that would forbid anyone who does not with their conference from making the title game. What he doesn't understand is the SEC championship game is simply a money guzzling operation that was brought on by Florida and the other SEC teams. I gaurentee you that if this situation were reversed, Meyer would be saying the exact opposite of what he's saying now. He has no temperment, and simply doesn't understand the consequences of his inflammatory remarks. It just makes Florida look like a football school who's desperate about sports because they can't compete academically. As it stands right now, I hate Urban Meyer.

Regardless, Nd will probably play Arkansas anyways. Florida will be shut out altogether. Even though I don't think Nd's body of work is deserving of a BCS bowl bid at all, I will still support Nd over Florida's inevitible cries of foul play once they lose to Arkansas and have LSU go to the Rose Bowl.

Thank you, Michigan

Thank you, Michigan

Don't like Florida, don't like Florida State. Like Arkansas.
But it would be great to beat Florida.

First, though, I'm pulling for UCLA to beat USC.

Then, watch a Michigan - OSU re-match.
Don't like either of these teams, but if MI beat OSU, and ND beat an SEC team, then ND would look really good.
This year I had to pull for MI against OSU.

So, thanks MI, for the offer to cheer for ND in a bowl game.
I'll reciprocate.

Meanwhile, go Bruins!

UCLA will most likely lose by 3TD's UM v OSU will not happen until they play each again next year...I am not in favor of a rematch...why should UM get two cracks at OSU but SC not even get 1?

ND v UF is what I want to see more than anything...just for the recruiting implications

I'm glad that the Irish are likely to play in the Sugar Bowl. I think that is their best chance of winning a bowl game would be against UF or Ark (not saying it will be easy). Plus, it's on Jan. 3rd with no other bowls to compete against for TV viewing and all the holiday hassles will be behind me! It's all Irish time on the tube that night!!!

I'd like to see the UF-ND match-up because it will mean there will be NO field goal attempts by either team.

I might be alone on this one, but it seems awfully premature for LSU and its fans to be assuming a trip to pasadena. what if the title game is a great game? i know lsu is good, but it's not a stretch of the imagination that the two teams playing for the SEC title might get both the BCS bids for the SEC. is LSU so confident because they might be ranked ahead of the conference champ in the BCS?

I would prefer to see a Florida/ND match-up too. Florida's offense can be down right horrid at times and I think beating a 1 loss Florida team would give ND a little more respect and and attention then beating Arkansas would, plus it would be a little like reliving history. In 1991 the Notre Dame defense struggled greatly and the Defensive Cordinator was fired. Notre Dame was invited to play in the '92 Sugar Bowl against a one loss Florida team, even though many people thought they didn't deserve to be there because they have several losses, and a bowl losing streak. Well, ND came out wearing the away version of the green uniforms and soundly beat Florida. Ironically enough the new defensive cordinator that was hired the following year was Rick Minter.

Hey, Goshen Guy, great re-cap of the 1992 Sugar Bowl situation.
Good precedent.
