What's the price level on those? Is it $100 off $999? Looking to buy computers for both of my sons and this would be quite handy if it didn't apply to only their top-end stuff.

I didn't really look at the deals, so I don't know. I'd just suggest going to the site, adding something to your cart and then trying the codes.

Thanks Svo! Just used J1M3TXHK86TFT0....saved me $200 on computers for the kids. Now they both have computers that are better than the one I use! And....Christmas shopping is done. For what these cost, they won't be spending alot of time opening presents.

All I own is Dell... and this is after a long time of building my own. They're cheap and if you buy the nicer ones, they're high quality. Mine take good beatings with all the design work I do.

bought one for college. ridiculously inexpensive, and relatively high quality. comes with a lot of bloatware, and my specific hardware (tv tuner card) has some issues with linux, but for everyday use, it's been great. and it was an absolute steal. works as a tv, hidef for gaming, and a pretty darn fast computer.

I have always built my own but just didn't feel like it this time around for the kids.....Had a Dell laptop for about 7 years. It was decent but had issues (was sent back 2 or 3 times.....for a new screen, new keyboard and new touchpad).

I just wanted to let you know guys that when I worked at Best Buy for a while, about 80% of the computers brought in for repairs were not even computers that they sell, Dell! (it really is not swell). The problem with Dell is that the parts are not Dell-made, and the responsibility for the parts is on the vendors themselves. Most of the HP and Compaq computers have their own controlled vendors. I know this for a fact since I did a case study on Dell in business school at good 'ol ND. My advice: Stay away from the cheapies, and go for the premium models. (Don't get me started on Celeron chips).

I worked for Intel for nearly a decade. I can tell you that Intel worked with a lot of OEMs. Dell was one of the best. Their quality is outstanding.

I am personally on the 3rd Dell right now. I ordered it 2 years and 2 days ago...I got it two weeks later. It's been a great machine.

I can give you one bit of advice about them...

If you get a Desktop...think about the E6400...it's an amazing bang for buck.

If you get a Laptop, make sure its got the Dual Core. Dell laptops are vastly improved over the last 3 years...and the Dual Cores are phenomenal.

The problem with Dell laptops is that they're made by a 3rd party in Korea for Dell. I forget who the company is but it was regularly discussed in Dell's support forums. Dell doesn't make any of their stuff (not that anyone else really does), they just slap their name on it.

I've had several Inspiron laptops from Dell and they've been the best lapper I've ever had. I, however, wouldn't buy their lower level line... the cheaper Latitudes.

Then again, I don't ever have computer issues with any of my equipment. It's all about the user IMO... and the warranty in case hardware goes bad.

I agree with the dual cores..to quote Borat, "Very nice." But I am a big AMD fan, and the Athlon 64X2 are nice chips, and much cheaper than Intel's.

Dollar for dollar Intel are faster and better though. Check Tom's Hardware to confirm that...but I know it to be true.

The $325 E6600 will smoke any Athlon X2...

This will all change next summer...but that's still 6-9 months away.

if you are a do-it-yourself kinda guy.... i suggest building your own computer... it is honestly not that hard. you can find great tutorials on the internet. if you read up on some literature, you can pick out all of your components yourself so you don't have any "cheap" parts. honestly, i built a computer back in 2004 for $1200 that would've cost me $2500 if i bought it from a manufacturer.

CHEAP parts.... EXCELLENT service

Great point...and kudos for highlighting the two best sites to buy stuff. Also, if you want some good reviews on the parts you can go to:

And here's a site on building one:

Gotta stay loyal...

Why? Why by a slower chip that delivers less value out of loyalty?

When Intel was behind in the speed race my gamer buddies always bought AMD, now they buy Intel.

No reason to reward a corporation for sucking... AMD is sucking now, why reward that? And when Intel sucks again, don't reward it.

I'm in IT and I deal w/Dell all the time. I just contracted an order for about 700 new Dell PC's. Dell is just now offering their lines with the AMD (they might have been around in the Home PC market for awhile) and for the price Gateway HP/Compaq still cannot touch them. I had alot of issues when using the HP line, but that's been awhile. I wish I could post ourDell Employee Discount Program here but I would probably get fired. You get about 15-20% off unit, plus free shipping, and 3 year onsite warranty and accidental incident waranty on laptops. Meaning if you get pissed and throw it out the window you box up the pieces and they send you a new one.

I haven't looked at bench test lately, but almost always AMD blows intel off the board.

I have had both Intel and AMD chips in my computers, and I have to say that I have had more reliability with the AMD chips...both were Gateways, and never had any problems. My wife has my old Compaq with an Athlon chip, that still runs...

Since Summer AMD has lost every single speed test it has been in (with the sole exception of Opteron servers).

Intel jumped WAY ahead of AMD by margins of 20%-50% speed differentials.

This will change in time, but right now AMD is not even vaguely competitive.

Still, I think I'm going to seriously consider them for our buisness workstations if they can give us a better price on them than Intel. Maybe for our more power users w/more demanding apps like GIS I'll go w/the Intel.

Ummm...the same speed Intel will cost you less right now. If you compare $ for $, the same $ will get you more speed with Intel.

Just go check the performance tests at Tom's Hardware, then check prices...it's pretty amazing...and it will only last until late spring or early summer.

I guess what I like about AMD is that they have been extreemly reliable for me... I have had three cpu's with AMD chipsets the last 14 years... I have never been a cpu gamer, I leave that to my xbox 360...

Both companies are extremely reliable now. AMD was known for being bad back in the 1990's, but Hector Ruiz turned them around on quality and now they are almost as good as Intel...they really have done an outstanding job on speed and quality. (AMD that is...)

In a couple of years they should be as reliable as Intel... Which says a lot about how well AMD has done these past 5 years.
