Okay folks... with all the complaining on the board, you know my mentality: if you don't have a solution, don't bitch about the problem.

So here is the entire Notre Dame coaching staff. If you were to make changes after two seasons in South Bend, what changes would you make and who would you replace the individuals with? Also, make sure your changes are feasible in the first place before recommending them. We can't bring in Nick Saban as our defensive coordinator.

Head Coach
Charlie Weis

Offensive Staff
Michael Haywood - Offensive Coordinator & Running Backs Coach
Peter Vaas - Quarterback Coach
John Latina - Offensive Line Coach
Rob Ianello - Recruiting Coordinator & Wide Receivers Coach
Bernie Parmalee - Special Teams Coach & Tight Ends Coach

Defensive Staff
Rick Minter - Defensive Coordinator & Linebacker Coach
Jappy Oliver - Defensive Line Coach
Brian Polian - Secondary Coach & Special Teams Coach
Bill Lewis - Assistant Head Coach (Defense) & Secondary Coach

That wouldn't help much on the defensive side of the ball. His specialty is really the spread offense. And he calls way too many Hail Marys.

I thought Moses speciality was the spread offense? Maybe Judas could help our secondary with some disguise coverages? And Osama could help with the long bomb? Or we could just get Nostradamus so we know what plays opponents are running before they run them?

Nice. Everything but the kitchen sink in that one!

In all seriousness, I have to trust Weis. He has worked with some great D-Coaching talent. Weis is clearly not perfect, but I trust him more than us arm-chair QBs.

I would trust Weis with my 10 month old.... but I'm not sure he is the best for our def. He was suppossed to bring the "nasty" back(is that a song???) and I didn't see it this year. And I think our offense took a hit with him spending more time on the "other" side of the ball. I think we definitely need a defensive guy to run the defense, I say we give Minter one maybe two more years, then look elsewhere. Unless we could get the guy from Ga Tech(i forget his name).

Uh, no, it's really not true. You have to look at when Weis hired Minter, and what he was hiring him for, and what made him the choice. Minter had been a major college head coach, had a good recruiting reputation, and had coached at ND before. Weis had never coached in college, had never been a head coach, and had never had to recruit. So he chose Minter. I doubt very much, looking at Minter's history, that Weis chose him for his coaching ability. Did Weis know how bad it would be? Doubtful. But he does now. And maybe he makes the change.

As for "If you complain but don't have a solution, don't complain!" it doesn't really apply here. I'm not head of an athletic department, or a college head coach, so that I would have a complete mental rolodex of available coaching talent. I just know someone not doing a job when I see it, and that's Minter.

God I would love Tenuta... Any chance he comes to a program like ND? I know we aren't getting Ron English, but he would sure be nice also.

What about stealing UCLA's defense away from them? They were pretty exciting, and got lots of pressure.

Fair enough. 2 more years and no progress at all? I'll get on that bandwagon.

how about Romeo if he gets shitcanned from the Browns as a defensive coordinator. Him and CW were together at New England.

I am sure Scooper would love to see a guy from the the Browns come to ND.

I don't want to suggest that certain people be replaced, but allow me to tell you about some guys that I really like that are out there.

Todd Stroud, NC State Defensive Line Coach
Manny Lawson and John McCargo were high school nobodies. Under Stroud, they were NFL first round draft picks.

Charlie Partridge, Pitt Special Teams/Defensive Line
A master recruiter that has a good foundation in Florida. Imagine if he had Notre Dame backing him. Pitt special teams was about their only bright spot outside of H.B. Blades.

Bo Pelini, LSU Defensive Coordinator
He'd be worth every penny they pay him. NFL coaching background. Missed CW by a year in New England.

I know Charlie, he is a stand up guy. He was my one of college room mate's best friends growing up in Fort Lauderdale. Played for South Plantation. He would be a great young addition to the staff at 33 or 34 years old. How hard can it be to steal him from Wannstedt?

That's the point, Svo, even if we're the most diehard ND fans in the world, how are we supposed to have an accurate list of feasible future candidates for ND assistant positions? Those candidates are likely to be position coaches in the NFL or at other schools, which, frankly, even the very involved fan doesn't know about.

If you think we have not made progress, you should maybe look at the stats...

No, I'm saying IF we haven't made progress. I think we have an will continue to do so, but IF we don't continue from now...

I'd like to also see the stats of how good the offenses are, that we played. Because, quite frankly, we played mostly pancake offenses outside of USC and UM. Penn State isn't much on offense yet. Purdue lit us up for ~500 yards as a very average team. Stanford got more yards on us than almost anybody else they played, same with UNC. We let MSU run up the score on us.

Our best defensive games against decent competition were against GT, UCLA, Penn State, anyone have the numbers of where their offense ranked this year? I'm pretty sure it isn't good.
