That's a lateral move, going from d coordinator at one school to another.

His next job is as a head coach.

There are rules against that in the NFL. Not so in college. However, there is an unwritten rule. That is often circumvented with titles such as Assistant Head Coach, etc. Also, there is a pecking order in college football. Remember last year, there was talk of Tenuta to Michigan. Lateral in position, yes, but it would have been a step up in prestige and probably money. Money, by the way, is the other way to justify lateral moves. How can you ask a guy not to double his salary if he can get it?

That said, I don't think Tenuta would be an option. I'm not sure he'll be a head coach, though. I recall reading somewhere that his personality is not a good fit for a HC position, that he doesn't enjoy recruiting and he is happy running the defense and not having the headaches that come with being the man.

If he doesn't enjoy recruiting, he'll have no place on Weis' staff.

Every one he hired when he got to ND has or had some type of recruiting background.

ND is just now paying their assistants decent wages by what the D I-A standards are. I doubt Tenuta's salary at ND in comparison to what he gets now would be that much of a difference.

The bottom line the coaching was very poor top to bottom Saturday night. There are far more glaring problems then the defensive cord. and his scheme.

Uh........such as? The only possible thing that is more glaringly wrong with ND than its defensive coaching is its defensive recruiting. That's it. All the main problems are there. Special teams is a big problem, but nowhere near as important. Florida is winning game after game with a kicker worse than Gioia.

So, again- what are these glaring problems that ND has that are worse than its lack of defensive talent and good defensive coaching? I'd say those are the top two things.

I was always one of those who was always defended Minter and asked for patience. However, in looking back at the season, it seems like many teams had one of their higher scoring games against us.

I will go crazy. Watching that game last night I saw a few things, all bad. First off what happened to ND's swagger, those kids all looked like they could care less what happened absolutly 0 emotion. Secondly you can't ask any more of a defense that gives you 3 possessions in SC territory in the 2nd qrt, yet you only come away with 7 points, why should the defense play hard after that? Everyone calls Weis a robot...well he is, and robot's can't make adjustments and change things up. His play calling last night was down right terrible at sometimes. Minter is not the problem the overall attitude and coaching is the problem. Weis is a brillant coach who knows offense better then anyone alive but he has to learn that these are 18-21 year old kids not paid professionals....until ND gets their swagger back this team will not win a title. But please stop blamming Coach Minter.

FIRE MINTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

The North Carolina game glares out at me. That team should not have scored 3 offensive TD against Notre Dame.

Stanford got a field goal on their first drive, but Zbikowski and T. Thomas were injured that game. They scored on a trick play in the second half.

Army scored on the second string.

Realistically, you should shut out any one of these three teams if not all three.

Once again I will say this team has far bigger problems then its defensive cord. Start with the overall coaching first. Don't fire anyone but make adjustments, change things up, motivate the kids, etc.

perfectly agree to this. it's not just an anomaly. it is the glaring underachievement of our defensive unit the entire year. ...and some of the blame goes on the players, yes... but still, more should go on the coaching when teams with LESS defensive talent than Notre Dame are outperforming the Irish significantly

I think minter's scheme will work when he gets better talent but the only problem i see is the fact that minter's scheme will not draw defensive talent to ND. If Charlie can go out and get a big time d-coordinator (some say Romeo Crennel is going to get fired in cleveland) then I say go for it.

How about Randy Shannon from Miami? He's not getting the head coaching job there. It would also help recruiting in Florida.

A former Miami Hurricane on the ND staff? Wow.

The defense staff is Minter (52), Lewis (65), Oliver (51) and Polian (32). How much longer is Lewis going to coach?

Read something today from Pete Sampson that Lewis has been coaching from the box and not on the sidelines. Interesting.

Lewis was on the sidelines during the USC game, he was seen numerous times throughout the game. One such moment was when he was talking to Bruton after the last TD pass to Jarrett. Minter is the one up in the box for the last few games.

You don't need to fire anyone.

What you can do is start paying attention to the defensive side of the ball a little bit more. Actually, a whole hell of a lot more.

Weis needs to have a hand in there, maybe two hands.

our coaching staff needs a major over haul...if you can't get your team up for its biggest game your in the wrong line of business...

Rick minter and his entire staff sucks asssssssssss...if you didn't hear me i will repeat it because it is worth repeating...Rick F' ing Minter and his entire staff sucks assssssssss...we played like the #1 d in the second quarter...the #130th defense on the other 3 and yes I do know how many teams are in d1 football thats my point.

we can beat every shitty team in d1 and can't beat anyone in the top 20.........what tha f...ck!!!!

Oh yeah and brady sucks if there is even a resemblence of pressure on him...under throw over throw in back lead to far.....

abiamiri sucks,,,alway over plays and can't seem to realize you can't always bullrush somtimes you really do need technique...a swim move or somthing for goodness sakes...
Zibby please go to the NFL maybe someone can teach you how to stay in position once in a f' ing while you suck maybe boxing is the best bet after all...

our receivers couldn't catch our runners couldn't run we played like shit and I am sick of hearing my brothers on this site saying how so and so is good don't chastize...kiss my...its the dam truth...

Good thing you cooled off first.

its the dam truth...
You made some points that I agree with (though would have made them in a cleaner manner) and some points that I disagree with. But I hate it when people try to strengthen an argument based on opinion by saying something is "the truth" like they are some kind of omnipotent being or something. It's not always that black and white. Make a point. Support it. But save the sweeping "truth" claims. None of us here is qualified to say that.

.... so, according to you everyone sucks on the 2006 irish team (cept number 30). This was AFTER you "cooled off?" Wow, I'd hate to see you while you were angry. Maybe you should narrow down your definition of sucks a little bit. We are 10-2 with pretty good, not great talent and almost zero defensive depth. We are all upset at the loss, but please, cool off a little bit more, and try posting realistic criticisms instead of just saying "everybody sucks, f everybody."

Man, I needed that chuckle. Anyhow, the mere thought of there being a lack of confidence in the defensive coaching staff is pretty scary in the big picture. That will devastate recruiting IMO. The word is out that the scheme stinks.....however, immediate playing time is an option!!! Kids will still end up somewhere else.

No, his analysis was pretty good actually.

pretty good? not hardly. If we all suck, how are we 10-2 with our only loses to the number 2 and number 3 team? Sorry, I don't buy it. We're not amazing, we aren't a dominant team in college football, but "SUCKS" is too strong a word. We are much better than the majority of college football teams. From top to bottom, how many teams would you say are better than us? Ten? I can't think of twenty for sure. So while we aren't dominant, in NO way would i say we "suck."

Guys, there is no use in arguing. There are fans who hate everybody and everything regardless of record. There are fans who think everything is great regardless of record. And there are fans who fall somewhere in between. I think from all our response bodies of work, we know who's who.

LOL ! Even I feel better after that.

As for DW, he proved on the draws, if you give him a hole he can gain positive yardage.
The offensive line did not open ONE hole all night long on straight run plays.
Look to the O-LINE for your lack of a running game anger.

I think it's worth remembering at this point that some of Charlie's assistants were his second choices. Maybe even third, as far as we know. I'm sure he will be addressing this this offseason in some way.

I think I recall someone on this board having trouble with the inconsistent accuracy of Brady Quinn earlier this year.
I can't quite recall who it was though.

Abi is, I tend to agree, more one-dimensional than you'd like to see a DE.
Zibby......I don't know what happened to him this year. Quite a disappointing dropoff in performance though to be sure.
