Of course Gamecocks on Scout site claim the story is fabricated, however, in the same breath, they're worried why Spurrier hasn't denied the reports..................yet !

Well, there's a 90% chance that's where I'm going to school... so...I'm not sure how to react to this. It's a big name, so I guess that's good.. but I've never been very fond of the guy.

The good news is that UA's offense will be more interesting with Spurrier at the helm.. who knows?

My guess is Spurrier doesn't end up there, though. It just seems like his name is thrown out every time a program fires their HC.

I guess my question is.... would Alabama really be that big an upgrade? I mean, prestige-wise, of course it is. But can UA really sell its program to recruits any better than South Carolina could sell their's?

I used to dislike Spurrier. I've had a change of heart. It's not that I like him much. Certainly his voting of ND last year was BS. However, I like that he's a straight shooter. If he doesn't like a coach or a team, you will know it. College football is so PC with everybody trying to be nice through the media. It's fun to see a guy like Spurrier making comments like "You can't spell Citrus Bowl without UT." I think he's entertaining. I think he's good for college football. If this happens, I think it will be great because it will give him an even bigger stage.

If he's at Bama, he'll still go head to head with Meyer on and off the field.

I always liked him at FLA.

I was checking out a bama board. They look a lot like we did a couple years ago. They are busting out the flight trackers. They are still fixated on Spurrier and believe to have found his flight from SC crossing paths with a flight out of Tuscaloosa.

This is like Deja Vu all over again.

My favorite Spurrier line is the one about the fire that happen at Auburn - the fire happened in a football dorm and 20 books were burned in the fire. The Sunvisor said "But the real tragedy was that 15 of the books hadn't been colored yet"

He won't go 'Bama - Expectations are way too high

I don't think any coach with any real noteriety is going to touch this job with a 10 foot pole. The expectations are unrealistic. Alabama fans and boosters have to finally accept that Bear Bryant is gone and no one can step in and immediately duplicate what he did.

As far as Spurrier goes, he isn't a guy that like expectations. He took the Duke job when they sucked and had no expectations, got them respectable and left. He took the Florida job when they sucked and had no expectations, got them to the top and left. He took the Redskins job when they sucked. He kept them sucking and left. He took the South Carolina job when they sucked and had no expectations, is getting them respectable and will then leave.

Take out Alabama and put in Notre Dame and replace Bear with Knute and you have exactly what other fans were saying about us two years ago.

Bama is still a good job. They have a lot of money, a rabid fan base, good facilities and are in the heart of a good recruiting base. Not to mention boosters who are proven to be willing to ummmm step up to the plate, if you will.

True, but remember everyone except an ND guy was running from the ND job as well. Even Meyer was a supposed ND guy. Are there any big name Bama guys they could get?

I think there were big name guys who would have takent it, but were never approached. As many names as were thrown around on ND boards, apparently the school's list was pretty short.

Yeah, I guess we never truly know who they are going after. Plus, some guys "take their name out of the hat" publicly before anyone even approaches them. I think that was probably what I remember.

The Spurrier to Bama thing isn't over. Here is something I heard today:

1) Offered 7 years at $3.3 million per (YIKES!)
2) Little Spurrier will be coming along (working for a family member rule is bybassed.)
3) Spurrier gets first right to refusal for Athletic Director when Mal retires.

Good God... I wonder what Miami's putting up to compete with that.
