Army's extra point?

Why didn't Army get to attempt the PAT at the end of the game? I realize it didn't matter, but can the game end that way?

I was wondering the same thing, it might be because there was zero time on the clock.

I believe it was another one of the rules to speed up the game. If a touchdown is scored with no time on the clock and the PAT will not change the game it will not be taken.

Only people it could screw with is those in Vegas.

Its only in the NFL do they make them kick the point....just because of the people in Vegas

I don't know....I just combed through the Official Rules book and couldn't find anything on it. But it's a long document so I very well could have missed it...

On a side note I found this little tid bit.....

Does this mean that you can actually punt a ball through the goal posts for a field goal? It does say "drop kick"?

Yes, you can punt it through. You can do it in the pros, too. Doug Flutie did it last year.

If you do a drop kick the ball has to hit the ground first, then you have to kick it through the uprights. Flutie did one his last year in NE

I saw that game on TV way back in January... as I recall, the commentators reported that was the first time a drop-kick had been attempted in the NFL since the 40s. It's tricky as hell to do, and it's so much easier to just do a standard field goal, but it's perfectly legal.

I seem to recall that doing a drop-kick field-goal is worth an extra point in Canadian football and in arena football, but I could be wrong.

Wasn't the spread on this game 31.5? If I'm right, that extra point would've beaten the spread.

Stuff like that really makes me wonder sometimes w/ sports...not the first time I've seen something like that happen.

I think it was 34.5, which means if you took Army you won on the last second TD. My friend did and lucky for him.

Line opened at 32 fell to 28.5.
Money laid at 32 got affected for sure.
