I'm watching the MSU/ PSU game before ours and they are going over John L's career, the biggest moment was planting the flag after Notre Dame "refused to hand over" the megaphone trophy... any truth to this? or is this just another Anti Irish spin job by a bitter commentator??

They didn't refuse to turn it over.

It's been reported that Charlie Weis didn't even know there WAS a trophy for that game; Notre Dame just doesn't even PLAY many trophy games. A dumb oversight, sure, but hardly intentional. Planting the flag, on the other hand... VERY intentional. You can't do that accidentally.

If I recall correctly, during the coverage of the ND-MSU game earlier this year, Bob Davie quipped that he didn't even know there was a trophy either... because Davie never defeated Michigan State.

It totally felt like a hater giving a cheap shot... like we don't get enough of that already.... but I must say *IF* there was any truth to this it would indeed make me look differently about the whole thing

Doesn't change a thing for me.

Even IF Notre Dame had forgotten the trophy "accidentally on purpose," you don't respond to one bush-league tactic with another bush-league tactic of your own. You should always strive to be better than "the other guy."

You would think that with the number of times things like this have backfired on teams (planting the flag, Da U stomping on Louisville's logo, etc.), people would stop doing things like this. But you'll never get poor betting on the stupidity of mankind, I guess.

The truth is the megaphone was in the lockeroom and it was not on the field so we could not get them thee trphy immediately after the game.

According to John Hessler the trophies are NEVER delivered on the field at ND Stadium. They are sent to the opponent (should they win of course) the following week.

That's from Hessler...the man who's job it is to deal with this stuff. So, the TV guys are being A-Holes.

If the flag planting is his biggest moment as MSU coach then that's a pretty sorry career

If we 'deserved' it why hasnt anyone except this douche claim it? Janelle didnt mention it when they interviewed him for this years game. This is retarded. I bet the commentator is the same dude on that MSU radio show that lsot it.

Btw, "traditionally" the Megaphone isn't handed over directly after the game. It wasn't handed over by MSU the year before in East Lansing either. There's never any formal ceremony (could this possibly be b/c Notre Dame doesn't give a rat's ass about the thing???), so if John L(oser). expected it to be there at the end of that game, then he apparently must also think Charlie is a mind reader, b/c there's no legitimate reason for him to have just expected it to be there based on the history of the rivarly, unless he had actually asked ND supply it directly after a possible MSU victory beforehand (which no one, including him, has claimed he did).

They did'nt "refuse" to hand it over. They just did'nt bring it to the game. I guess they just expected to win, so why bring something that you would only hand over in a loss if you expect to win.
