Michigan. If OSU wins we stay behind both of them, whatever happens. That Michigan loss was too pronounced for us to jump them if they lose close, even with a win in SoCal. If we beat SoCal and Michigan beats OSU, we jump OSU.

BUT.....an Ohio State win does nothing but hurt us in the BCS poll. I don't think UM falls very far if they lose (the pollsters love em even though they've not really beaten anyone other than ND...who "sucked" and was "overrated" according to scUM fans and haters across the country). We wouldn't jump them if we beat USC by 80.

Yea I'm not sure by what logic you think OSU winning helps us. The BCS title game is not a WBC title fight, and people will not keep us out if we earn it just because they don't want to see a re-match. If anything our beating USC and running the table afterwards would make a rematch attractive, because people will realize we weren't as bad as that game. OSU winning keeps us behind both OSU and Michigan. No way do pollsters put Michigan behind us. Michigan winning puts OSU behind us, if we take care of business and SC handles Cal and UCLA. Then it's all about the SEC games falling the right way, and WVU beating Rutgers and shutting up that contingent.

If either team loses in a blowout, they will drop and drop more than 1 spot. If Ohio State loses a close game, they will drop to #2, blowout who knows.

The best thing for Notre Dame is a Michigan blowout win.

I think a Michigan win, period, gets it done, ESPECIALLY if (follow me here) Texas loses again, perhaps in the Big 12 title game. If Michigan beats OSU, OSU's only big win is over Texas. And Texas looks a lot less good right now. OSU wouldn't really have an argument to be ahead of us.

Of course, it also wins Brady the Heisman, should he beat SC. Could be a perfect end of the year.

Agree with the majority that a Michigan win by a relatively sizable amount (ie. 10+) would be the best thing.

Expect once the BCS poll comes out, we will only be behind:
1)OSU
2)Mich
3)Florida (1pt come back win at home doesn't cause them to be jumped)
4)USC

Arkansas may slip ahead by end of the season (they still play LSU which will help them) but don't think so....

If:
1)loses by enough, they should fall outside the top 5
3)loses in the SEC championship game (against Ark); or loses to FSU (tough rivalry game)
4)loses to ND in 2 weeks


....ND would have a chance. That is many ifs, but who would have thought that so many upsets would happen this past week (Louisville, Texas, Cal, Aub)?

No one will want to give ND another shot at Michigan. Just like no one would have wanted to give Tex another shot at OSU. Sadly, college football is like boxing. No matter what happens, few voters and analysts will feel ND has "earned" anything. In most of their minds, ND is where they are due to other teams faltering, not ND earning anything. If UF loses and ND beats USC(even if not by 80), ND should be able to get in if the computer numbers are in there favor. They might get passed by Arkansas, but it would be hard to jump and ND team that beat USC when you're a team that got hammered by USC early this year.

I honestly don't care who wins. I do wish Troy Smith has a crap day and throws for 90 yards, 3 int's and no td's. Even if Pittman and the OSU d wins the game for them. And yes, I know, the media will claim he deserves the Heisman because his team won, but I bet not every voter will see it that way. Especially if BQ lights up USC and wins.

What world are you living in? If Texas had won out, and OSU had won out- there would probably have been a rematch (SEC results pending).

I mean who is that other team going to be? It won't be OSU or Michigan. An IMMEDIATE rematch is not a possibility, because a loss always gets immediately penalized in the poll, and the loser won't be able to come back. So the choices are-

Florida, Arkansas, USC, ND, Rutgers.

Rutgers loses to WVU, is out. Even if they win, despite some public outcry, they're out.

Florida and Arkansas play, so one is out. There's a fair chance LSU beats Arky, and Arky beats Florida- eliminating both. If Arky wins out, it's difficult to imagine them not getting the title shot. Same with Florida. It's just unlikely either wins out. We'll see. They're the major hurdle.

SC, if they beat Oregon, Cal, ND, UCLA, all in that order, to end the year- I think they get in, regardless of what the SEC teams do. That'd be really impressive to pollsters, plus they THROTTLED Arky at home.

ND needs to beat an SC team that beats Cal and UCLA, have neither of the SEC teams win out (though if Arkansas did ND would have an argument, since SC killed Arkansas), and have Michigan beat OSU.


That's pretty much the situation.

Kind of disappointed that SC has snuck back into 3; they are afflicted with the same issues as ND and Florida (ie. some sketchy wins), but the difference is that both ND and Florida lost to ranked teams (#2 and #15 respectively), whereas SC lost to an unranked team.

Although, guess that SC win over Arkansas is helping them big......

The way I look at it, Michigan needs to blow Ohio St. out, period. I can see Florida losing, still play FSU and SEC championship game. USC could lose at least two more this season, of course the Irish will beat them but they also play Cal and UCLA. Hoepfully win out for ND's SOS. I can't really see a Mich/Ohio St. rematch for the NC but it's possible pending the score, need that Mich blowout. I can see ND playing for the NC and it starts this weekend with a HUGE win by Michigan...i never thought i would say this but GO BLUE!

Another thing to keep in mind. We definitely want GT to win out. They are in the Acc title game now, if they win out, they will be hovering around the top 10-15.... That would be a great win for the resume... to go along with our win over USC.

Going to make a worst case scenario statement. Say Michigan/OSU winner wins by less then 3, and then we beat USC also in a tight one. Then every possible team we need to lose/win to help us get in to the top 2 BCS spots does what they need to, I can almost guarantee we see a rematch of the OSU/Michigan game in Glendale. An immediate rematch is very much a possibility, its already happened before(FSU/UF in 97 I believe) We need Michigan or OSU either way to win handily so that the loser drops behind us(We really need a Michigan win). It hard to penalize either OSU or Michigan to much for losing a tight 1 v. 2 game no matter when the loss occurs.

No way does that happen. Either the SEC winner will go through without another loss, ND will go through without another loss, or SC will go through without another loss. Any of those teams that did that would jump the loser of OSU/Michigan on sheer momentum, especially if it's Michigan who squeaks by OSU- who hasn't beaten anybody but Texas, who don't look so good right now.

And the BCS wants it to. They're hoping as many one loss teams as possible, along with Boise State and Rutgers, will lose.

This thing is still a jumbled mess right now. Just a lot less than it was when we woke up November 11th.

I'll be rootin' for Big Blue. Michigan is easily the more honorable of the two programs. But more importantly, there's no way that a one-loss Michigan team could get leap-frogged by Notre Dame, not after what happened in South Bend earlier this year. Michigan would have to lose even bigger than we did.

I like our odds better if we're trying to leapfrog a one-loss Ohio State, especially if we find some way to crush USC.

The only way we're playing for a national title is if Ohio State loses. Then it's rematch time in the desert, and suddenly September won't matter so much anymore.

If Michigan wins we have no chance at the title is seems to me because people wont want to see a rematch, especially with how lopsided the first game was. If we beat USC we'll get a BCS game no matter what happens, but I cant see us playing for the title against Michigan. This is assuming of course that UF loses, and Arkansas might have to lose one also (If they beat Florida in the SEC champ game I can see them maybe jumping us)

I'm still pulling for UM because I want Quinn to get the Heisman, which doesnt happen if Smith has a good game and OSU wins.

But you people saying that don't seem to acknowledge that if the things we've discussed happening happen (Michigan beating OSU big, ND winning out, SC beating Cal and UCLA, Arky losing to LSU, beating FLA, Rutgers losing to WVU), ND is pretty much AUTOMATICALLY in. The computers would do it, and there's no way if those things occurred that the pollsters would be able to keep ND out of the BCS #2 spot, even if they wanted to. They'd have us #3 at the very lowest, which wouldn't be enough. Any lower than 3, with those things having happened, and it would be a huge controversy and would really kill the BCS.

The title game wants ND. If ND qualifies, ND will play.

Even though I don't like Michigan very much, I will be rooting for them.

1. It will help ND's chances at rectifying that loss to them earlier in the season.
2. I am starting to hate OSU as much as I hate USC. No particular reason, maybe the coach, hell maybe because they spanked us last year, but for whatever reason and I hate to say this.
