ND 3rd Quarter Defense

So at the sake of jinxing them horribly, I'm going to post these stats. Our 3rd quarter defense under Kelly has been absolutely amazing. I was never a big fan of Diaco, but it speaks volumes to the halftime adjustments he was able to make. BVG is continuing the tradition so far.

2014: 0 points allowed in 5 games (0 points per game)
2013: 53 points allowed in 13 games (4.08 points per game)
2012: 24 points allowed in 13 games (1.85 points per game)
2011: 9 points allowed in 13 games (.69 points per game...excludes USC defensive TD)
2010: 55 points in 13 games (4.23 points per game)

Total: 141 points in 55 games (2.56 points per game)

I'll probably post the Weis 3rd quarter stats later when I'm bored, but just thought this was an interesting stat. Feel free to blame me and this thread when Cuse torches us for 21 points in the 3rd quarter tomorrow night.

I have also noticed this. The 3rd Qtr has definitely been our Qtr. I have been getting use to slow starts because I am confident we make up ground and/or pull ahead in the 3rd.

I think you have to give some credit to the offense coming along, as well. It's not like we have been burying teams in the first half, but the offense has come along to the point of putting a lot of pressure on opposing teams to score in the second half. That made both Rice and Michigan pretty one-dimensional, coming out of the locker room for the second half. It's not hard to play really good defense, when you have a really good idea of what is coming.

But if your premise is that this defense has so far outperformed most people's most optimistic expectations, then I concur............ wholeheartedly.

Gotta bump this. 5 games in and 0 points still. The fact that we only allowed 9 points all year in 2011 is still amazing to me.

And, once again, this bump will cause UNC to drop 21 on us in the 3rd quarter on Saturday.
