With UL's defeat at the hands of Rutgers and an Irish victory on Saturday, where do the Irish end up in the polls this week?

If we be Air Force accordingly, probably one spot up. Louisville will fall just like West Viriginia did.

I think ND will get jumped by Rutgers in the polls. If Tennessee beats Arkansas, maybe the irish move up one spot. Otherwise, we're relaxing at #9.

I called this as well. ND has to win by at least 3TD's to not get jumped by Rutgers IMHO. Something like 40-14 or 38-17. The offense has to score at least 40 points and the defense has to hold Air Force to under 17. If the game is similar to the UNC game, we will get jumped by Rutgers.

I agree with the second half of your analysis. I don't think there's a pundit in the country that doubts ND's offense. It's not that side of the scoring margin that matters so much. What every pundit blasts ND for is their defense. So if the defense can hold AF to under 14 or 17 as you say, then people would be impressed. ND could hang 100 up and people would still only want to talk about the defense (not including Craig James, who's sketchiness will never approve of ND).

Our defense has to find a way to put a whole game together. We can't allow Air Force to score 20 points. If we take care of business, we won't get jumped by anyone.

Rutgers might jump us but I think there is no way they will win at West Virginia. As long as we keep winning decisively, everything will work itself out.

Yeah, that's fair. And to be honest, the way Rutgers played last night, I have no issues with getting jumped in the polls by the Scarlet Knights. While I truly believe we would beat them head-to-head, I think its only fair that if they beat the #3 team like they did (giving up 0 points in over 35 minutes of play) that they should get to move up.

They will most likely lose to WVU...but hey, give these kids their moment in the sun.

i think we move to #8 assuming we win, UM blasts OSU, we move to #7, then we beat SC, we move to 6, in a perfect spot for a BCS bowl

even if UM blasts OSU i dont think they'll drop much further than to between #5 and #7. OSU is the darling of the polls this year and will be prevented from a plummet in the polls for three more reasons, they'll be losing to the #2 team, they beat UT who's in the top five right now, and since we got blasted by UM too they're likely to be put at least one spot in front of us. pollsters couldnt wait to drop us 10 spots after the UM game. but notice how other teams having similar (though not as thorough of beatdowns) losses in the top 10 dropped to a spot ahead of us. it's just the way it will be this season. as long at we get that #8 BCS spot we're guaranteed a BCS bowl. all we need to do is win our next 3 and nothing will prevent that.

Funny how the scoring margin of that UM game plays such a huge factor...

If we lose that game by a touchdown, instead of 26, we are probably like #5-6 right now.

That's exactly the point! We went down so many spots because of how much we lost by.

Andy why do some people think Rutgers will lose to WV? They beat Louisville who beat WV. And I know that homefield advantage and matchups are entireley different and this logic is flawed, but I think Rutgers can surely beat WV.

ND needs the following to get into NC Game:

1. defeat a 1 loss USC
2. Arkansas to defeat Florida in SEC Chmp. (which auto. leaves Auburn out of NC even with 1 loss due to not winning there Conf. Champ. game)
3. TX loss or it will be a coin toss to see who goes to NC game

I'll take Rutgers all day againt WVU. WVU haad no defense. RU will run all over them. RU also makes passing plays when they need to. WVU will be facing the best, fastest defense they have faced all year. That will be a toss-up because it's in Morgantown. Play that game in NJ and it's the Knights all day.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Although I think there is a chance florida could lose before the SEC game to either SC or Florida State.
I really think Texas is overhyped and ranked too high. They have had the same season we have had. Their only win vs. a ranked opponent came against #17 Oklahoma. If we beat a top 10 USC team I don't see how we wouldn't get the nod over TU. If you lay it all out like the5thhorseman has, we have a pretty good chance of the NC game in this scenario.

Never happen due to the perception that they are a better team than ND and they are the defending national champs. If Texas wins out and ND beat USC by 28, ND will still be ranked behind Texas. They are the pollsters darling almost as bad as USC is. Look at the close calls that USC has had this year behind lackluster competition (at home no less) and was never penalized for it. Polls are what they are. ND has to take care of business these last 3 games and hopefully some teams ahead of us continue to lose, we'll go to a BCS bowl, not a national title game, but a BCS bowl and hopefully put "the streak" to bed.

well played ptrigger...

anyways, i dont know why anyone bothers thinking about how nd will make the nc game. there's just no way we'll make it that far in the rankings. osu and um will absolutely stay ranked ahead of us unless we're #3 the week they play, which wont happen. focus on making a bcs game instead. it'll take some of the stress out of life

I think Rutgers can take them out. Rutgers D may prove just has tough as it was last night.
