I read where Munir Prince did not travel to the game against Navy. I couldn't hear the game Saturday because I was at a bar. The article quoted Weis as saying something like, "he didn't deserve to travel with the team this week." Kind of a WTF reaction on my part after I read that. I think it was the Chicago Trib.

Just wondered if anyone knew what was up with this situation. Did he skip some classes?miss a workout? Dog it in practice?

I just really wanted to see him get some carries this week.

i'm hoping it was some motivational thing rather than him falling below atleast 3rd string RB.
i know that weis likes to bring kids that don't always make the travel roster to places they are from but not at the expense of a contributor.

Let's hope it's just a motivational thing, Keeping in mind he's an 18 year old kid making a huge transition in his life. Probably nothing to worry about.

still waiting to see actual confirmation of this. someone mentioned it being in the post-game presser, but i haven't seen that presser online anywhere.

also, i think munir may have been overtaken by aldridge for the 3rd string back. Remember, I believe TT still is second on the depth chart to walker. Charlie mentioned that TT was responsible for a set of about 15 plays this week. Not sure completely what that means, but munir may be getting put on the backburner in favor of aldridge.

It was not football performance related. Nor was it a big deal. I doubt we see it happen again.

PLEASE. Will someone link to an actual concrete source?

There are a lot of people who seem to know what's going on, but nobody is explaining or even showing where they got their information... It just seems like a bunch of FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt).

I would like to see him more too...but let's face it, if ANYONE does not earn getting on the bus, I don't want to see them play.

prolly no one is linking b/c there is no concrete thing to link it too. Charlie didn't say why, so it's not gonna be any more than word of mouth. and word of mouth isn't really something you can link to. I did see something about it, I believe on ndnation. I don't remember for sure though. so you could try looking there if you really want to know.

I'd say, don't worry about it. If he doesn't make the Air Force travel squad, then maybe worry about it a little bit.

The Notre Dame band didn't travel to the Gerogia Tech game either.

Only so many seats on an airplane, guys, and jet fuel is expensive. This is a non-story.

No wonder the ND Offense struggled. The Band led the Offensive Charge against Sparty.

Yesterday's Sun Times.

October 29, 2006
BY VAUGHN MCCLURE

BALTIMORE -- The constant prodding David Grimes gets from Rhema McKnight must be working. Grimes had another productive day at receiver for Notre Dame, snatching a 36-yard touchdown reception over Navy's Jeremy McGown on a play in which Grimes said he was pushed. It was the first touchdown of Grimes' college career.

''It was great,'' he said. ''I couldn't ask for anything more.''

Grimes said he won't let the play go to his head, not with people like McKnight always in his ear to be better.

''I'm his big brother,'' McKnight said. ''It's tough love. I love the guy. He's a good player, a good person.''

OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS: Starting linebacker Travis Thomas saw his first offensive action since the Penn State game and had a 16-yard touchdown run on his only carry. His last carry was a touchdown against the Nittany Lions.

''Anytime Coach throws me a bone,'' Thomas said, ''I'm trying to make a play out of it.''

WELCOME HOME: Irish defensive end Victor Abiamiri, who played high school ball at Gilman School in Baltimore, was able to scrounge up 13 tickets for the game. He didn't disappoint with two sacks and two tackles for a loss. ''It means a lot to be able to come home senior year and play in front of that home crowd,'' Abiamiri said.

Cornerback Ambrose Wooden, Abiamiri's teammate at Gilman, also played.

HIS CALL: Former Notre Dame quarterback Steve Beuerlein was the CBS analyst Saturday -- the first time he has been in the television booth for an Irish game.

He hopes it's not the last.

''If Pat Haden ever decides to step down with NBC, I'd love to step in,'' Beuerlein said. ''I think there's something fundamentally wrong about a USC guy doing Notre Dame games.''

HOBBLING: Reserve linebacker Anthony Vernaglia went down with a left knee injury while playing on the kickoff coverage team. He went back to the locker room, then later returned to the sideline on crutches.

PERSONNEL MATTERS: Safety Tom Zbikowski, who hadn't returned a punt since he was banged up against Purdue, returned Navy's first punt of the second half for one yard. ... Freshman running back James Aldridge entered the game with just under 11 minutes left and had 12 carries for 33 yards. ... Freshman running back Munir Prince did not make the trip to Baltimore after coach Charlie Weis said Prince didn't deserve to travel for this game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Carl Gioia's career-long 40-yard field goal in the first quarter was his first success from 40 or more yards this season. He entered the game 0-for-3 from that range. ... Notre Dame did not punt in the game

Let's hear it for Thomas. Talk about a serious team player. Out of all the players on the team he has impressed me most with his attitude and hard work. I know they all work hard, but he agreed to give away any shot at being the #1 back for the good of the team. And he has really made his mark at LB and still gets a few good runs in.

What a great kid.

That is why Travis Thomas is my favorite player.

Is it me or is it quite harsh that someone doesnt even deserve to be with their team for a game?
I wonder what he did for Weis to not even want him to come to the game.

Someone call me when Darius Walker doesn't make a road trip.

One little blurb in the Sunday paper. Big deal.

Lou did it to Ricky Watters for a very minor violation before a trip out to USC for a shot at the title.

Didn't Ricky actually make the trip and then Lou sent him back to South Bend?

Wait a minute...as many on this board appear to believe...I thought Prince should be getting 10-15 carries a game and is ready to take over for DWalk as starter anytime soon.

Now he can't make it on the bus. What gives?

Note to those individuals who believe the above statement: He is a true freshman and is clearly not ready to play. So, lay off the soon to be ND all-time leading rusher (Darius Walker) and enjoy the production he gives week in week out. No...he is not the fastest runner in the world, but he does something better than any other running back on this team: he produces. Whether it be yards, catches, touchdowns, or blocking. He's the best we have, and his numbers show it.

I understand Weis not allowing Prince to play but to not even travel with the team makes me suspect a somewhat major violation.

James Aldridge called Darius Walker "the master of our offense."

Walker is on par with Quinn and Weis on what is going on. Passing, running, blocking, all of it.

There is a reason his reps aren't being cut, folks. Let's leave the decision making to the football people, mainly the guy with the Super Bowl rings.

weis plays hardball. if it were a major violation, he'd be out for the season, a la RPN. I suspect this was some tough jersey love towards the freshman. If that NDNation post is to be believed, Prince won't be late for a team meeting for the rest of his ND career.

Watters was 47 minutes late for a team meeting at USC. Thats why he was sent home. I don't see that as minor.

1988 #1 ND playing #2 USC Watters and Brooks showed up late for a team meeting and were sent packing. Put on a plane home before the game. They didn't even get to watch it from the stands. Watters was the #1 Flanker and Tony Brooks the #2 TB.

Whether you consider it a minor or major infraction is irrelevant, Holtz did and he put a National Championship on the line for discipline. Watters and Brooks had been warned before that their tardiness wouldn't be tolerated. They pushed and got shoved. I believe they were never late again.

Holtz had shown before at Arkansas that discipline on his team was more important than playing the prima donnas.

I don't know the reason for Prince not making the trip. I don't know if it was tardiness, missed class, missed assignment in practice, regardless, the whole team knows there are consequences for actions or inactions.
