Arrelious Benn. Was gonna be J. Clausens go to receiver...I was very sad when he decided against ND
Looking at the rating realistically, most times the 4 & 5* players don't pan out
That's not true regarding 5stars especially as their bust rate is far less, now we had a few in recent memory crist,Aldridge and some higher ranked 4stars but in general they are far less likely not to...just check recent nfl drafts
(Quote referring to ND's recruits)
Looking at Alabama's recruiting classes from 2008-11 to determine their success rate for 4 or 5 star recruits, the results are:
It would be interesting to calculate ND's percentage for a relative comparison. But since ND gives, in effect, a four year scholarship, you would have to define success differently.
- -- 58 of their 105 enrollees (55%) were 4 or 5 stars over that period
- -- of those 58, 18 (31%) did not finish at Alabama - transfers, suspension and one medical
- -- I did not include Early entrants (4 or 5 stars) to the NFL draft (10) since they can be consider successful
- -- If you are a 4 or 5 star at Alabama and are not successful after your redshirt Soph season, you end up transferring.

Great data, any chance you are working on ND #s?
We have had a fair number of defections... and what would you do with the Crists and Walkers who left after 4 to finish somewhere else.

Here's ND's data for same period (classes 2008-11):
-- Of 87 recruits, 42 were four or five stars (48%)
-- Of those 42, we had 3 transfers - Lynch, Bullard, Shaq Evans, and 1 medical - Cam Robinson)
-- So, 38 of the 42 (90%) finished four years at ND or were Early Entrees
So you can see that colleges that, in effect, give four year scholarships may need to have a different measure for success than a program like Alabama.
Looking at just one position
Alabama had five (4 or 5*) QB commitments over those four years out of the total of five QB commits. Three of the five transferred. (40% success in staying)
ND had one (4 or 5*) QB recruits of the five QBs over the same period (Crist). (100%)
Of course, at TE, ND had 6 of their 7 recruits with 4 or 5 * over that period. Fauria transferred, but we have had Rudolph, Eifert, Niklas and now Koyack and Welch.
Hope that helps to illustrate a difference and the challenges in measuring success.
Fell in love with a girl. Mary something.
Kyle Prater, Seantrel Henderson, Justin McCay, Jake Heaps, DeAnthony Arnett, Kiehl Frazier..
Seantrel is still a very good player, and with our support system, he might not have faced the challenges he has at the factories.
Yet he is a headache..
