do you honestly think ND could hang with Florida? I am not out there on the field so I'm not sweating it, I still say bring them on, but it has high potential to get pretty damn ugly. Hopefully ND can prove me wrong.

I actually also would rather not play Florida. It is so rare for us to play them, that we may not get to play them for a long time. But Weis and Meyer will always be linked. And if Weis loses to Florida, then people will have more trash to talk about ND. I say we wait for Charlie to get his players in there so that we can go after Florida. Because right now, the reality of it is, ND can not hang with Florida. ND does horribly against teams with good defenses. Now, if ND plays the #1 defense in the land, it will be Fla 38 - 10 ND.

I would rather just win a bowl game, regardless of the opponent. It might do something to lift up our confidence going into bowl games, and at least won't have to hear about how ND has not won a bowl game since 94.

I think we should turn down a BCS game and see if the Boise Smurf Turf bowl will let us come out and play Nortwest Montana Tech State.

I know this sounds crazy, but SEC defenses are good but over-rated. They look unstoppable against the plain offenses usually seen in the SEC. But look what happens when someone brings in a throwing, fast paced complex offense(like Florida has). USC puts 50 and 70 on an Arkansas team that just beat Auburn. West Virginia put 1000 on Georgia in their bowl game. Notre Dame put 41 on Tennessee last year. Iowa scored 24 on Florida in the Outback Bowl. Wisconsin put 24 on Auburn in the Capital One Bowl. Arizona State scored 31 on LSU last year.

Florida's out of conference opponents this year so far have been UCF and Southern Miss. They're good, but untested outside the comfortable confines of teams they know very well and who use very vanilla offenses.

I wouldn't say we SHOULD beat them. But I wouldn't be surprised if we did.

No conference has better athletes on defense than the SEC. But there is truth to jersey's post. They don't often face the best offensive schemes. Cutcliffe is probably the best offensive mind in the SEC. Jimbo Fisher is OK, but not great. They are catching on to Urban's schemes.

Overall the SEC offenses are not tough to gameplan for.

Reps, jersey.

I think you failed to mention it would be 38-10 in the first half.
stanford sux and they dropped balls in crucial third downs where the receiver was wide open. They are very young and inexperienced.Weis also has a lot of respect for harris and really didn't press to drive the score up because of this.
the rest of notre dame's schedule is soft and it will just make them look better and better.

Now that I've said that I also feel they can do some things to actually get better, but there are some teams that I would rather the irish not play in a bowl game and florida is one of them. They are a deep two dimensional team that picks average defenses apart and their defense will just stop our running game, thus making notre dame have to throw the ball under pressure at that.

I'm not into the bragging rights or the "only game on t.v at the time" mood as a fan for notre dame going to a bcs bowl at this moment if we have to play certain teams.

I want to play the best team that we they will let the Irish play. If we can't beat them, than there's more work to do. So what? It won't hurt the program.

Kids don't go to ND to try and measure themselves against the best team that they know they can beat.

If you took a poll of the team, I'd bet they want to play the best they can play.

This may sound like blowhard chest thumping, but I can't believe the fear. It's not ND.

We might get our asses kicked with that match-up.

Call me a pessimist, but if you thought GT's defense was fast............

Yep.

The dink and dunk passes to Walker and Carlson would be gobbled up immediately. They'd go through the offense line like they were a giant paper homecoming banner at a high school game.

Well, I agree that I'd want that match-up just because it's a big game; I almost fell asleep during the Stanford game.

Florida State & Miami have lots of great athletes on defense and look how good they are. With the offensive talent and schemes we have, we could beat Florida. I'd be more concerned with our D defending Florida's O. Tebow can flat out run and we have problems with mobile quaterbacks. I can already see him starting to run, our safeties biting on it and then Tebow throwing it over them for a TD. I think it would be a shoot-out. Especially if it was on a neutral site. The Swamp is a NASTY place to play.

you know what?If some kind of divine intevention told me that notre dame plays florida with no penalties and the o-line does the best blocking job of the year...then i would agree with you.

Come on guys a little more confidence would be nice. Are you guys telling me that this years Florida team is more talented than last years USC team?? We could definitely beat Florida! By the end of the year the two QB system will be a huge distraction.

I'm saying we could beat them. I'm not buying into the Florida is invincible thing yet. They are good, but they still have to play Auburn and Georgia. Remember Auburn? They were invincible too up until Saturday afternoon at about 4:30. And FSU. I understand FSU isn't very good this year, but this is a rivalry game at FSU against a team with nothing but pride to play for. That could be Florida's trap game. Plus, I HATE FSU, so they'll probably win just to spite me...again.

Totally irrelevant because last season ND had Stovall, Fasano, Stevenson and LeVoir on offense. Whole new year, whole new ball game.

The 2006 Gator D is better than the 2005 Trojan D.

It has nothing to do with confidence. Vegas would have ND as a dog, and judging from the Michigan game I'd say they'd be getting some points.

If Florida beats Auburn, they cruise on to the SEC Championship game.

But I think Auburn beats them since War Eagle is at home.

i personally dont want to play them, I want to play either Texas, or Auburn...good traditional powerhouses that I think we can beat...create a little momentum for next year, and it bodes well for recruiting in those two areas

Not to go off on a different wavelength, but if I see WV make the NC game, I think I'll blow some serious chu*ks out my mouth. I don't see Florida making a BCS game due to their schedule. I think they'll get knocked off at least twice before the season is over.

So far as the "What If" concerning Florida versus ND....hmmmm. I think the boys will be riding high off of a win over USC...will have a month to prepare for Florida....and we'll keep that Florida offense off the field in a grind it out, punch them in the mouth style game that we're going to perfect over the rest of the season. ND wins 31-28 on a last second Gioia field-goal that stamps his confidence in solid-gold and he is COMPLETE money in the fall of 2007...but, I'm just a fan and like to write my great daydreams down in this forum.

who on D has the speed to shadow Chris Leak and Tebow if they decide to run. who can keep up with percy harvin and the other 2 WRs. Lets be realistic. We could make it a game if ND plays the perfect game, but judging on the performance so far, I would say no, and I don't know if we have the offense to get into a shootout. Has nothing to do with a lack of confidence, its being realistic.

Guess you guys weren't fans back in a season when ND went 9-3 giving up 22 points per game (sound familiar) dropping from the 5th ranked team in early November to #17 by the end of the month. Blowing a 21-0 lead against Tenessee and getting ripped the next week by PSU giving up 35 points in both games. Narrowly escaping a third straight defeat in the last regular game beating the Rainbow Warriors 48-42.

There were calls for ND to back out of the Sugar Bowl bid they had received earlier in the month when they were a once beaten team (Michigan). The Irish were matched up against the #3 team in the nation who were coached by the hottest young coach in college football. The week of the game a waiter quipped to the ND head coach, "What's the difference between Notre Dame and Cheerios? Cheerios belong in a bowl!"

Holtz took his maligned team and dismantled Spurrier's "vastly superior" Gators in a game for the ages. A game you guys would not have wanted to take place.

Notre Dame plays the highest ranked team available!

WE ARE ND!
