I wasn't impressed with the Noles or Miami in their opening game. I still think they're both overrated. Noles fall to NCS by 4 as a 10 pt favorite.

The same NCS team that lost to Akron at home by 3 and got whipped by Southern MS on the road by 20. They previously beat Div 1AA Applachian St and upset BC 17-15. NCS looked aggressive against FSU on both sides of the ball.

Yep. I think it is time for a regime change at FSU. Grandpa Bowden is a figure head only. They need a real head coach, that is actually running the team and overseeing the program. Chuck Amato might be saving his butt with wins over BC and FSU.

As for Larry Coker, I think a couple more losses and the writing is on the wall. It might only take one. They'll make a run at the Rutgers guy, and I hope he stays up there. Rutgers or Miami? I look at Miami's fan base, facilities and pressure.

Never thought anywhere on Earth would be less desirable than Jersey.

The great unknowns about Da U.:
Campus is basically the suburbs extended. In other words, you could walk right through campus and never have known you were just on a university's grounds. It's completely non-descript.
Not to mention the suburb, em...I mean campus, is surrounded by some of the worst neighborhoods in America from a crime and poverty standpoint.
On top of which, the Orange Bowl is the most dilapidated stadium in big time college football. It's just awful.

Finally, the dirty little secret about South Florida is.....(drumroll please).....there's no such thing as a south Floridian.
Nobody, and I mean nobody, is FROM Florida.
The state motto should be changed from the "Sunshine State" to "Transplant State".
That 'hair transplant' guy, what's his name?, should be the damn governor !
It's a melting pot of American misfits.
Leaving your family? Head to Florida.
Jumping bail? Head to Floida.
On parole? Screw it ! Head to Florida.
Fresh out of rehab, with no money and no prospects?
"Hell, at least it's warm if I have to sleep in the street."
Tired of the cold and have a lot of white shoes? Come on down.
Got a break this Spring? "Let's go to Florida and break it down there. Then leave."
Can't speak English? Welcome ! We don't either.

All this makes for the worst sense of community you'll find in this land.
Which translates into the worst sports town in America.
Oh, they proclaim to love their sports...but when push comes to shove they won't support they're sports teams. Or anything else for that matter.
And I'm only 35 miles away! TOoooooooo close for comfort.

My uncle once spent a week down in Miami on vacation.

He swears to us that everyone he met were Jewish people from New York. No lie.

From what I hear, Liberty City Miami is absolutely beautiful. Compared to Bahgdad.

This game was a strange combination of ugly and entertaining. Neither side had much offensive identity until NCST started hitting on some fades, which opened up the zone rushes out of the shotgun.

I argued after week one that our win was more impressive than FSU's. Take the name away and neither Miami or FSU is very impressive this year.

Living in Florida, I have to say FSU and Miami sucking this bad puts a smile on my face everyday. For 15 years I've had to hear how they are the greatest college football programs EVER and that ND was dead. There are no more delusional fans than FSU fans. Miami fans don't count because the shirts go back in the closet if the Hurricanes are losing by 3 at halftime. FSU fans will rationalize why the Noles should be in the NC even if they have a 7-4 record. Seriously. I wouldn't believe it if I didn't hear it with my own ears...every friggin day!

Well....there's that too. It's not called New York's 6th borough for nothin' !
Liberty City? Well, just like Baghdad.... I wouldn't drive through it.
Unless I had a .50 cal mounted on the dash !

How about that rookie quarterback for NSU? Player of the game.
Actually, I can't wait for the Florida-Florida St. game this year.
Every year the wife and I go to the local sports pub to witness the fan inanity.
It's like sitting in some big city DMV.

Throw in the Dolphins and I'm ecstatic !
And the poor Miami 'Guppies' get to go to Foxborough this weekend to get slammed by my Patriots. I love it !!

I'd say Miami ranks right up there with Atlanta as far as supporting their sports teams goes.

Duh U fan base is absolutely horrible. Probably worse than USC's bandwagon jumpers.

I doubt it. UGA is as big of a job as either of them.

Agreed but who's willing to cough up the biggest bucks?

And personally I'd rather be an in-state FL coach recruiting FL.

Richt is a Cane Alum, his hometown is Boca Raton, and the former FSU OC. Lots of roots in the Sunshine State.

I'd bet if push came to shove, UGA could easily cough up the biggest bucks. They are Big State Football U. Miami, is actually a smaller private school with a mostly front running fan base. They've thrived on making some good coaching hires and having a rich recruiting base. It's not because of their resources.

UGA has a much longer standing and richer football tradition and is THE program in GA, which leads to more "influential" wealthy boosters. They'd come up with more $$$ than Miami and probably FSU as well.

True the Fl schools have that home grown talent, but GA is no slouch and he has less in state competition there, GT aside. Plus, the proximity means UGA has plenty of access to FL talent.

Actually, I think Richt just signed a pretty healthy contract with UGA. I think over $1.5M until 2010. He has said he is at UGA to stay. However, it would be pretty interesting if Miami came calling. Seems like going back to your own college (assuming it is a big time program) would be something to think about.

Dude, you are so 100% correct. Have you ever read a Carl Hiaasen novel?

During my post-Katina exodus, I lived near US-1 in Coconut grove--about a mile from Da U's campus, such as it is.

I lived near the Grove, worked downtown, got pan-handled at least 6 times a day, no kidding.

"The worst sense of community you'll find": so true. It was a particular shock to my system, since south Louisiana has the strongest senses of community I've ever experienced in the US.

East of I-95, south Florida is pretty wonderful. Unfortunately, almost everyone lives west of I-95, which is basically New Jersey with palm trees.
