Man was he a character! He was just younger than my parents. It was a running joke in our family, "Let's ask Andy Rooney!" I suppose it was our families way of getting around the "generation gap" with a little humor. It was a reference to all the advice Andy got over the years from Judge Hardy, and to the eight marriages and eleven children he had. In the sixties when stereotypes of the generations were drawn in the sand, Rooney seemed to violate all that, with his irascibility, wit, and youth. Bridge at Toko-Ri, was an epic war film, and his role was one of the best, ever!

Wasn't it Mickey who said, "I like marriage so much I did it 8 times"?

One of the few child actors who made it big when they were young and managed to maintain his career at a pretty high level.
