If anyone else was too bummed to notice it, Darrin Walls was inserted into the lineup and promptly shut down MSU's best receiver all night long. He's gonna be a good one folks!

He is getting valuable experience, good to see... But the d-line (excluding face-mask ABI) finally brought some heat and had Stanton running for his life for most of the second half which was likely more of a contributor to shutting down their passing game. Good job D..

the future is bright at the CB position. Walls looked very impressive for a Freshman in only his 4th game with the team. based on composure and size, he looks like a veteran out there. Let's just hope he can be consistent and be a playmaker. It will take a few more game, maybe even until next year...but I'm excited about his future.

dont forget that wooden has a year of eligibility left. and lambert will be back. i know wooden gets burned deep a lot but he can still be a shutdown corner when hes playing well

We had two critical penalties on special teams. They were both critical. Ray Herring got called for offsides on the kickoff which ended up costing us 28 yards of yardage because we tackled them on the 14 yard line, and now they start on the 42 yard line when we have to rekick. It cost us 28 yards, which was huge. Then we had the hold by Lambert on Zibby's return for a touchdown. Although there were only two penalties on special teams, they both hurt us.

This was bothering me last night, IMO, Davie just threw a name out there.

Yep. I laughed at the thought of BQ being forced to block on special teams.

Yeah, I just saw Charlie's face when they announced the number for the penalty and he's like, "You know that's my starting QB's number"?

Do these things excite anyone?

Glad for the 'w' and all, but lost in it was the performance of the defense in the first half. Any confidence from the first two games has been totally wiped out for me. I think most anyone can score on this secondary.

I'm glad for Lambert because he made the most of the opportunities against MSU after being Manningham's toy the week before. Stanton threw a horrible pass right to him. The ensuing run back for the TD proved what I've hoped for Lambert all along: Special teams. That return was more impressive than the interception, hands down.

The second INT, well, call that what you want. It hit 14 body parts of three different guys and he ended up with the ball.

They still can't cover anyone and haven't covered anyone in about three years. Our safeties jack guys out of bounds but also can't cover anyone. Someone tell me the last time Tom Zbikowski had an interception. The last one I remember was Tennessee last year.

Walls will start in Richardson's graduated spot next season.

Walls was all over Manningham last weekend as well (2nd half). They completely stopped throwing to that side of the field.....after the damage had already been done, however.

Manningham didnt play the entire 3rd quarter and was used sparingly in the 4th. Walls had decent coverage but did find himself running to catch up with him as well. Though Walls has shown a lot of great things, give some credit to manningham and the other corners, he played like a stud wr

I'm not too excited about these two returning next year. The problem is that Wooden should probably be a linebacker if he got bigger, or a safety. It seems like CB is not the position for him, as he is to slow. I am more excited about McNeil, Walls and Gray playing the CB position, as that is there natural position. For the least several years, we have had safeties and linebackers playing cornerback for us.

I'm not a football expert, but it seems like for the last couple of years we have had DEs playing DT, Linebackers playing DE, and Safeties playing CB (and now RBs playing LB). We are always either too small or too slow.

Once we get a few natural DTs, we can start building from there and not have players play a position they are not built for.

Wooden is solid but not special. Lambert has speed, but his coverage skills are sorely lacking.

Wooden better get healthy fast because Darrin Walls could get his reps and not give them back.

Walls and McNeil will start next season. Notre Dame hasn't been able to cover anyone the last two weeks.
