It got very little attention here. I didn't even know about it until Tuesday. Just goes to show how Illinois Football is huge in Chicago.
Not sure it was much of a big deal. A high school coach would get in big trouble for this, but some of them even do things like this and get by.
I'll say one thing, Russ Weil was a state champion wrestler. He'd kill Ron Zook within about ten seconds.

first and foremost, that's not the sort of thing you want to put on video record.
that said, i'm not necessarily against a coach getting a little physical with a player as a motivational tool, but it should be measured. in high school, i once saw an assistant coach line up across from an underperforming DT and go head to head without pads just to make a point. but that was in practice, and in the proper context.
in a game situation? meh...that's a lack of composure....a boiling temper. that's a bad sign.

how do you expect your players to keep their cool when you the coach can't. Holtz would get physical with his players but in a grab your face mask and drag you some where to tell you you're an idiot.
