Isotopes, what sources did you find that indicate Chris Galippo and James Wilson were re-considering? I hadn't heard anything about Galippo, except that Coach Weis was continuing to recruit him even though he was an early commit to the University of Scandal and Corruption (i.e. Coach Weis: I will continue to recruit players we have offered, even after they commit to another school, until they tell me otherwise) and that he attended the Blue & Gold game. I remember thinking that everyone had James Wilson as a ND "lock" Then, he broke our hearts when he changed his mind after visiting with his father in Los Angeles and USC and ended up committed to the Trojans after what seemed to be a great deal of soul-searching. Remember, he was born in CO and when his parents split; he moved with his mother to FL. Mom wanted him to attend ND, while dad wanted him to go to USC. Obviously, it was a difficult final choice. It seems that it wouldn't take much to shift the balance toward South Bend. I've heard that he is rethinking his decision based upon the concerns he has about the Reggie Bush mess and the possible probation that could follow. I'm hoping that James' mom ultimately wins out. If mother's made the final decision on which school their athlete son's attended, Notre Dame would not have to recruit!
If there is any truth to this, it would take away a great deal of the disappointment felt after the devistating loss to Michigan.

7?!? Seriously? There are only 30 5 star guys right now according to rivals. That means he thinks we need to get almost 25% of them to win his recruiting title? Why stop at 25% we should be able to pull atleast 50%. There are 16 left uncommitted so if we can get 13 of those we should be able to reach it. I usually love his info/opinions but he might want to remember that there are more than just USC and ND going after these guys.

Honestly though I think we come out with 4-5 5 star and 8-9 of the top 100. If someone can convince Miller that Colorado's beyond hope for the next few years, then maybe we can pull 6 5 stars. I would certainly be ecstatic with that after the last decade or so of recruiting.

What Notre Dame needs is another top ten class that will bring them depth. Chris Donald could probably end up starting next year on the outside with Crum and...a third mystery member.

Toryan Smith. I hope get gets some time against some of the lesser opponants coming up. Your linebackers can be as athletic as they want, but they need a shot of toughness to be a great, or even good LB corps. I have high hopes for Mr. Smith.

Agreed on the rankings. I think top 5 is a good target this year.

As far as the "recruiting tiltle" is concerned.... Who cares, 1,2,3,4....10!!!! We are recruiting with the best of the them again. That should be the headline! Just as long as CW gets who HE wants, I'm cool with where they fall in the top 10. Long gone are the days when Vernaglia and Hord(nothing against them) were the headliners of the class...

As Lattedatte said - clearly the level or caliber of athlete we are attracting now is much higher. Not that the player rankings mean that much, but it is representative of how you are viewed by the recruits. No question, last year was a step up from previous years, and this year appears to be better yet. Last year there were 2 five stars, 10 4 stars and 16 3 stars. So far this year, 2 five stars, 5 four stars and 2 three stars. The majority of people still on the board who are interested in ND are more in the 4 - 5 star regime than the three. Clearly, CW is getting who he wants which are also who everyone else wants too. We just are winning a few more of the battles than in years past.
