No way. The 49ers have bigger problems to deal with, such as their unimpressive wide receiving corps and their young offensive line, to even think about drafting another quarterback. What's more, they have too much invested in Alex Smith, and he's only entering his second year in the NFL.

But don't think that I wouldn't like to see it happen. :D

regardless of their position the Niners will not take him they have too much invested in Alex Smith. If for some reason they end up with that pick you can bet your gold diggin niner ass they will trade it, or you could see them taking a real running back like Peterson. Remember everyone thought that Reggie Bush was going to be the number one pick this year and look how that played out.

Sorry to revive this one fellas.........but it's football time and it's on the brain. I've got a strong feeling that the Irish signal caller is going to end up in the NFC Central this time next year.......had a huge hunch this morn. You know life is cruisin' along pretty smoothly when these are the things that occupy your mind when gettin' ready for the 8-5.

Alex Smith blows, that pic made me so mad...they should have traded the pic, but oh well...As a niner fan, i wish we would take him...Oakland and more specifically All Dinosaur Davis dosen't draft QB's that high so i dont think it will be Oakland, Buffalo seems like a good fit, but i am not sure they will lose that many games to be the number 1 slot...If I had to guess, it would be the Jets...they dont have a ton of quality depth at the position, Brady has a strong enough arm to play there, and lets face it, them like my niners suck bad right now.

The Raiders are absolutely the worst team in football......BQ in the silver and black. He could pull an Eli Manning and I don't blame him. I'm sure he'll gleam some advice from The Coach. (not Ditka)

I agree the RAIDERS are the worst team in the NFL,and they are my favorite team. I have always wanted BQ for the RAIDERS but now I am changing my mind. His season's in Oakland would make his freshman year seem Heisman worthy. Until Al Davis is a memory the RAIDERS will be a garbage pile of cast-off players and coaches that nobody wants, without the success this formula brought in the 70's & 80's.

I am not certain that I see BQ as being the #1 overall pick. Not yet at least. He hasn't played like a #1 overall pick this year yet. That could change based on how he performs int e coming months. Presently, I view him as a top 10 pick. But until he stops forcing the ball into coverage, stops overthrowing guys deep, and starts throwing a better overall spiral, I can't see him going #1.

Particularly if the Raiders get the first overall pick. They love to throw the ball deep a nd stretch the field. The vertical passing game is what they want to be about. If BQ is missing on the deep throws, they wouldn't pick him.

I tend to agree with this.
Make no mistake about it though, the kid's got NFL skills in all phases of the game.
He's just not naturally an accurate thrower of the football.
I see him as a 'rhythm' player and I expect him to improve as he gets each game under his belt this year.
Here's hoping he has a great game Sat.

Last season, he improved as the year went on. In the Michigan game, for example, he threw some very inaccurate passes to open receivers that might have, if caught, put the game away.

By the end of the year, he was threading a needle all game long. Much like his passes to Carlson last week.

One thing to note, even in games where he seems a bit "off" in his aim, he completes over 60% and usually over 65% of his passes. This speaks volumes to his decision making and vision. If a receiver is open, he will find him. And he knows who is supposed to be where on every play. For this reason, I think NFL scouts will drool over him. Mentally, he will enter the league as ready as any QB over the last decade.

Yup, all attributes that will make him a wanted man for some NFL team.
Accuracy, I think, is his only weakness but he keeps getting better.
Keep on keepin' on, Brady.
I know we have this position battle won by a mile this weekend.

My guess is the Lions. After that, maybe the Raiders.

I don't think the Jets will be bad enough to get a pick high enough to draft him this year. Besides, they think they might have something in Clemmons. I'm not sure the Bills will give up on Loseman already, and the same goes for Cleveland w/ Frye, not to mention San Fran w/ Smith (who looked pretty good last week anyway).

I hope its the Lions. The problem is that the Lions suck, they just don't suck enough.

No two teams could have played worse than the Packers and Raiders in Week One. And the Raiders were way worse than GB was.

We'll see what happens come April when the draft rolls around. The first pick could be anyone and it might not be Quinn they take anymore.

Solo...............your pretty much right on. I just want to see him get us an NC! I also think he has some "happy feet", & I don't think the pros are going to like his throwing mechanics.

i dont see anything wrong with his mechanics. he has been under constant presure. even pros have happy feet when they are getting knocked around. and the fact that CW has been grooming him is the trump card. The NFL has got to be drooling over him right now. hell they were last year. some people think if he would have entered last year he would have gone before Matt and Vince.

your kidding...right? Dannyboy?...Going before Matt & Vince last year? Remember....he wasn't even invited to the Heisman show. Vince needs a little work, & as much as I hate to admit it about an SC player............have you seen Matt in pre-season? Looks like a 5 yr. vet already.

if you remember correctly he was invited to the Heisman show and finished fourth, now lets compare him to Matt: better mobility stronger arm and more acurate didnt Quinn also finish with better stats too?

The Heisman has nothing to do with pro prospects. Danny Wuerffel, your table is ready. It's entirely possible he'd have been picked ahead of Leinart and Young.

Happy feet? I get frustrated with this expression sometimes. Have you ever seen Peyton Manning throw? His feet dance around like he's practicing for Dancing With the Stars. Don't confuse happy feet with trigger-shy. Brady sticks in there when he needs to get the pass off most of the time. Guys that are trigger-shy drop back, take a quick look and try to get the H outta there because they think they're going to get crushed.

i agree i don't buy into happy feet for Quinn. I think anybody who is getting hit will eventually be moving their feet around a bit. it is the nature of the position. I don't think it will have any impact on his draft spot.

Does Brady have "happy feet"? Maybe. But not too bad.
Does Peyton Manning have "happy feet"? Yes
How in the hell does that work, you may ask?

First off, "happy feet" is a bad aphorism.
A quarterback who constantly moves his feet is not necessarily doing something wrong,
and a quarterback who doesn't move his feet is not necessarily doing something right.
The quickness of his motion, good body balance, and accurate release are the difference.
Assuming a quarterback has good protection on a pass play, happy feet along with good balance and a quick delivery, ala Manning, will work just fine.
But under the same circumstances, a quarterback who doesn't move his feet a lot, is not in good balance and cannot get rid of the ball quickly and accurately, will not be fine.

Brady needs to study Tom Brady a little bit more (I know he's talked to him).
Brady's got similar footwork to Tom.
But it's Brady's athleticism and strength that make his in-pocket movements too drastic to stay in balance and be prepared to release it quickly and accurately.
Watch Tom move in the pocket. He doesn't so much "step" but rather "slides" his body to either avoid a rusher or step into an open throwing lane.
His body movement is much less drastic than Brady's movement and allows him to be in a position at all times to deliver the ball.
Brady will improve in this department and when he does his release will be quicker, his throws more accurate, his ball flight more predictable and his confidence will grow.
Amen.

Good post NDAlumSon. I agree. Every QB has different attributes that make them good or bad. Some are more important that others. Brady Quinn is still one of the best (the best in my opinion) QBs in the nation and he'll have experts in the NFL after Charlie cleaning up his movements even more. I think Charlie has done an outstanding job so far and Brady will only get better over time.
