This game should make it or break it for Williams. It would be great to land the lad. Hope to impress Barksdale too.......if the environment is anything like it was Saturday,
ND could be in real good shape for him as well.

Everything is looking good on the Barksdale front these days. I mean, he was on an unofficial to South Bend this weekend with his mom and two siblings, he's going to be back in South Bend this weekend for his official. To top it off, his official to USC is for the Notre Dame/USC game.

While things can change, i definitely feel we're on top as of right now.

somebody get Barksdale a room with as much time he is spending on campus!! I love it and the fact that he brings his family to unofficial visits makes me think he is just going to use his visits to other schools to get pampered and then commit to ND

Well, that's definitely what I'm hoping. I think he is the type of kid that could see major PT as a frosh.

Barksdale is about as close to a must get for us as we have. Based purely on size(since I haven't found the time to watch his game film), he could play for us right now.

I'm guessing...everybody by Malcolm Smith.

Yep.

Still worried about Barksdale, more Ohio State than USC. I don't think he'll leave that far from home.

I think his parents got into his ear. Play ball, get educated and don't worry so much about the social aspects and clubbing of a college town.

Total 180 by Barksdale RE: Notre Dame. I'm pretty sure it was parental influence.

Gotta love Mom and Dad. That and the fact that Ted Ginn Sr. is now too busy with his son's and his own season to bother recruiting for the Buckeyes.

And the fact that Texas wouldn't let him take his officials once he verbaled. No dating once you are married to UT apparently.

Yeah, Mack Brown really takes a no nonsense approach to recruiting.

I remember Bradley Stephens making a comment to Scout, if I recall correctly, that Mack Brown basically told him "Don't waste anyone's time, including your own."

Hey, the last two years they've filled up almost an entire class before their season opener. Different ways to skin a cat, I guess.

This can help or harm them. Penn St. used to fill up early. Then they ended up with guys who hit their ceilings as Jr's and missed out on some of the late bloomers. I think you need a good mix of early/late guys.

But you can't argue with the benefit of getting the best talent out of Texas.

If a monkey were the coach at UT they would still get the players. The majority of kids in Texas grow up with one thing on their, play ball at UT. So once they are offered they sign. Look at their roster, I'd say 95% are born in Texas. That is why I don't respect Mack Brown at all. If CW were there, they would win a NC every other year. This is similiar to the way it was for us back in Leahy's and Rockne days. But we won NCs, big difference.

Not necessarily true considering that some high profile Texans went up north to play for Bob Stoops in recent years.

You don't respect a coach because he keeps the talent in his backyard in talent rich, football crazed Texas?

Tough crowd.

A&M used to get their share of the big ones back in the Mackovich days as well, especially on defense and at RB.

Nuss and Ragone are supposed to be there too. Not sure if these are officials or not.
Well, Nuss was there this past weekend on his official, so if he is coming back, it's on his own dime. However, I do like seeing that.

Hadn't heard about Ragone.

Barksdale's commit would be great...But Blackwell joining him would be the jackpot!

It's because Mack Brown has all that talent and if Superman aka Vince Young hadn't been born in Texas he would never win a national title... Big game choke.... (Look up Oklahoma pre-Young senior year).

Not quite sure I agree with this logic.

Young was a junior last year.

Are all of these guys sitting together or are they spread out? Seems like it would be better to sit them close to each other and have the current commits (Clausen) work them throughout the game.

They're usually all in the first couple rows of the NW end zone at the foot of the student section.

No, I don't respect a coach that year in and year gets the talent he does and only wins one national championship.

I didn't say he got everyone from Texas, it's a big state and it has a lot of players but he does get the majority of the top tier ones.

Tell you weren't amazed when ONE day after signing day Texas already had double digit commits for next year? is that mack brown or is that the uniforms???

Think about what you're saying here.

No, I don't respect a coach that year in and year gets the talent he does and only wins one national championship.

By that rationale, you have no respect for Lou Holtz and what he did during his time at Notre Dame. You'd probably have a pretty long list of coaches you would not respect based on that.

You can sell your uniform all day, but what happens once the boys get inside of them? Let's ask John Mackovic. The guys in burnt orange while he was there played like burnt turd brown. Giving Mack Brown zero credit for his recruiting hauls is pretty narrow minded.

They give out one National Title a year, sometimes two depending on what poll you're looking at. 84-19 in 8 years and he's won at least 10 games the last 5 consecutive seasons. I'd say that's pretty damn consistent even though he didn't 8-peat. We'd all have a lot less gray football hair as ND fans with a record like that in the past 8 years. It isn't even close.

Take a look at what John Mackovic was doing there before Brown got to Austin. I can save you all some time with one fact that stands out about his tenure there: Lost on more than one occasion to Baylor.
