I didn't say that he did something wrong. Merely that I didn't care for his answer. There is a difference.

Joe Pa has time to talk shit, he doesn't have to worry about playing a tough game before ND, unless you consider Akron a power. Weis has a boderline top 25 program in Ga Tech to worry about right now, Weis just doesn't have the time for this old fart...

Joe Pa wants to beat ND so BAD, he probably spend the entire offseason preparing on how to beat ND, probably hasn't even looked at any Akron tapes..How funny would it be if he lost to Akron..

it can happen, a smart coach wouldn't take a team from the MAC lightly. OSU included when they play NIU. How great would that be if NIU could pull off that huge a** upset with OSU looking ahead to Texas? GO HUSKIES & GO ZIPS!!!!!!!

I'm going jump out on limb here and say the Jiggafini has just a wee bit of greaseball dago in him. Just a guess.

Just a guess based on nothing, in the first place. In the second place, it wouldn't make a difference. Would it be all right for me to call people "kike" on here if my screenname ended in -stein?

But I'm not going to make this another racial issue. Nobody else questioned that one because it was obviously in bad taste, except you, because I happened to be the guy pointing it out. Drop it, and let's get back to bashing Solo's Victorian standards for his head coach.

My response is, "Who cares?" I would much rather have an honest man like Charlie than some bullcrapper. As stated by Uncle Lou, "I do not care what anyone thinks about our team, as long as they are not members of this team."

You guys will have to excuse my posts from Friday. I was a little fired up before our game and work was pretty nuts.

Forgive my testosterone laced barbs.

Solo, the comments by Weis are fine. "Who cares" isn't something teenagers say; it's something anyone says when wanting to be dismissive without being particularly mean, or getting more involved than need be. Weis was dead on in his answer.

This, however, is not fine, and if Weis had said it, he'd be fired already. Also, Anthony Fasano says hi.

I apologize to Anthony Fasano, as well as my father, sister, uncles, aunts, cousins, second and third cousins, grandparents, neighbors and Italians everywhere for my comment.

Pretty sure Weis would never say this, nor would I if I were a man in his position.

I see Paterno as someone I can relate to in various ways. One of which is that he is an old, grouchy, Italian guy.

I'm a greaseball dago well on my way there.

Probably for the best. I stick to my own kind with that stuff. I'd never be dumb enough to go outside of my bloodlines.

Where I grew up, we lived in a melting pot neighborhood and everyone was friends. We got away with a lot because everyone knew everyone and no one was offended.

Clearly, times have changed because everyone gets offended by everything anymore. That's not how we grew up.

I love what coach said when a reporter aked him this: "It’s been reported that Joe Paterno has said some unkind things about Notre Dame. How do you feel about that?"

Coach responds: “Who cares, I’m the head coach at Notre Dame, not the head coach at Penn State. I don’t care what he has to say. Right now I’m not worrying about Penn State, I’m worrying about Georgia Tech. Penn State is the furthest thing from my mind right now. Who cares what they say?”

Just what exactly did Paterno say? Keep hearing about it but what was it?

He made some kind of statement saying that Big Ten teams should not play Notre Dame because of their independence, forcing them to join a conference more or less.

As I've said before, he's a figurehead now. He allowed his coordinators to open things up a bit and suddenly they're seeing some results from it. His 1930's playbook wasn't really doing much for a while there.

There are whole groups of people whose existence depend on being offended. They live every day in the hopes that will be offended. And if they can't be directly offended by a comment they will be offended on the behalf of others. It's maddening.

I waiting for the full time offended to come after the name "Fighting Irish".

I agree 100%.

There are groups of Italians offended by The Sopranos. You should hear my dad, the son of Italian immigrants, scoff at these dopes. His best soapbox rant ever.

I won't even tell you what he said about Paterno, and my dad likes Paterno due to the cultural bias.

Sorry, but calling someone a "greasy dago" and my calling you on it is not "getting offended by everything." You're a head football coach, right? Lovingly refer to yourself, or one of your players as a "greasy dago" in an interview. See how long you keep your job. This isn't 1920's Chicago where people were nicknamed Dago Frank and Whitey Lewis or Joe the Gyp. Those people had no other way to distinguish each other than by ethnic slurs, because they weren't civilized. We, supposedly, American suburbanites in the 21st century, are civilized. And if we're not, this supposedly civilized society will not tolerate us. And that's as it should be.

Also, why are the Italians who consider The Sopranos an offensive stereotype dopes, but your father isn't? Maybe they're just a little more socially conscious than he is - if I were Italian I wouldn't pay attention to The Sopranos either way (not my cup of tea) but looked at objectively, it certainly is a negative stereotype. Why saying so makes one a "dope" is beyond me.

Guff, you are exactly right here. Reps to you, pal.
It's the pure defintion and modus operandi of pointy-headed liberalism.
"I, we, know what's best for society and will interupt and inject ourselves into all your lives so that you will all follow and heed our wisdom. It's social engineering of the highest order.

I say, as my grandmother used to say......."mind your own f**king business !"

Yea, this is the same argument used by people who wanted to keep schools segregated, keep blacks out of sports, out of movie theaters, in the backs of buses. Evil liberalism cleaned up all those things.

Personally, I don't care for that answer.

I would have much rather heard something like "I wasn't aware of Paterno's comments, however, if what you say is true, I would love to sit down and talk to him about it when the season is over..."

Alright, Ty.

Okay...thanks for the thread about Paterno's remarks. Drawing the church into it was stupid on his part but the rest isn't a federal case. You can love or hate the guy but he has run a clean program and is a credit to the game, even if he is now running off at the mouth about us. Who cares what he thinks about our facilities...we know they are tops and so is our program, especially since CW showed up. Let Joe Pa be Joe Pa and rise above it...and beat them fair and square on the field. That's the best way to do the talking. The rest is too petty to be concerned about and he's entitled to make statements (even dumb ones) for home crowd consumption. He's probably envious about our tradition and the NBC contract, anyway. Rise above it!

I actually think Paterno is incredibly overrated. His career hasn't been that good. Lou Holtz did more in his first seven years at ND than JoePa has done in his 40 or 50 seasons.

So you'll just slur the entire city of Chicago ...

... We, supposedly, American suburbanites in the 21st century, are civilized. ...

Well at least you didn't call them articulate.

I see now where this is going, so I'll make my point and quickly drop this before all responsibility gets thrown out the window and people start to brand me with labels that are false.

I like the show, other Italians like the show. There is a group that doesn't. This group wants the show taken off the air because THEY don't enjoy it despite the fact that others do.

Change the channel if the show bothers them. It is TV drama. It is fiction. We want to watch, but because THEY find it a stereotype it has to come off the air?

That, my friend, makes them dopes.

I'm an assistant coach, and personally I would not talk to reporters about anything because all they look to do is make a story where there isn't one.
