Might he be in the mold of Lorenzo Edwards? Seeing that he is just a JR and Edwards finished his HS PT at S... maybe a bit of a stretch. Is Simmons looking like the #1 OLB prospect of 2007 for us? He has serious speed (4.66) and should graduate about 210 lbs. Any chance he is an EE? We need him on campus ASAP.

No, Filer looks to be ND's #1 LB. It seems like Simmons is in the next group with Nagel, and Posluszny.

Here's some info from Maurice's Power Hour interview.

Maurice is the 10th out of 12 kids, and three of his older brothers have played Div.1 football. Melvin at USC, Marvin at Kansas St., and Marlin at Cal, and his little brother was leading the league in tackles as a sophomore this past year at weakside OLB untill he suffered a season ending broken arm. Maurice also said he really likes ND's atmosphere, and Coach Weis's crunch time decisions. At this point he also has official offers from Ole Miss, and Nebraska.

According to Maurice the three most important things about a school are it's...

1. Academic Program (Maurice reports a 3.0 GPA)

2. Football Program

3. Location

He said "Go Irish!" at the end of the interview as well.

Maurice Simmons will end up at USC, he said that he's always wanted to be a trojan.

You know its weird, Simmons is very highly rated and considered one of the top hundred recruits next year. While Steve Paskorz has almost identical combine numbers and did not get nearly the hype as an amazing athlete as he deserved. Paskorz actually has a higher Sparq rating on Rivals then Simmons.

1) Simmon's numbers are as a junior
2) Numbers don't usually tell the whole story
3) Paskorz may be underappreciated--partly, perhaps, because he was one of those early recruits. I think he has good potential.

Paskorz numbers were as a junior also, and it was after a knee injury. Measurements aren't everything but Paskorz backed it up with solid play on the field.

I think I will abstain from conversation on recruits for a while this last round wore me out. I don't know how you guys handle it all....

no big surprise here! Oh well, good luck to him, at least he didn't waste ND's time by waiting until the last minute to commit and giving us false hope. ND is out there on a good group of LB's, so we should get our share down the road.

Commited to SC.

As soon as he was offered, which is why ND never bothered to give Simmons an Official Offer. You do have to give Simmons credit though for letting everyone know that as soon as USC offered, he was going to be a Trojan.
