Obvious bets would be Indiana and Illinois, but I'm not sure who follows. There is a large ND community in Ohio, but Ohio $tate absolutely dominates this state. So I wouldn't say we deserve to be up there.

I'm not well-traveled where sports are concerned, so I don't know what to think.... my guess is Massachusetts would be up there? As well as the other New England states?

I bet Pennsylvania is a lot like Ohio in that I'm sure there are a lot of ND fans, but that they are spread out, and Penn State/Pitt pretty much have things monopolized.

Does anyone have any thoughts about this topic? I'm pretty interested in knowing what Michigan is like.

New York has tons of ND fans. There are two Division I programs in the state -- Buffalo and Syracuse. No one gives a hoot about Buffalo, and if you don't live between Rochester and Utica, no one gives a rat's behind about the Orange. As most of us in New York say about Syracuse football, you can't spell suck without SU. ... Tons of Irish Cathlolics in NYC and upstate NY who love our Irish football.

Which states have the highest percentage of ND fans?

Based upon what?

# of ND fans in a particular state divided by that state's population?

or

#of ND fans in a particular state divided by total ND fans?

I don't know how you identify the number of ND fans in the nation or by state. Somebody has a record of merchandise purchased by zipcode. TV market share info is also out there. I don't know how you get your hands on it.

Yes, or as Tommy notes football fans, or college football fans, you have to define the parameters.

They are all different ways of reporting the data - if you can assemble the data.

What's your basis?

#of ND fans in a state/# of total ND fans
#of ND fans in a state/#of college FB fans

As an example say, 30% of the college fans in Indiana root for ND. Because of the difference in populations, states with a much larger population like Illinois, or California may have a smaller percentage of fans that root for ND but they could have a larger percentage of total ND fans.

College football isn't very popular in NY or MA, but of the people that do follow college football in those states I'd say most are ND fans. It wouldn't surprise me if Boston had more ND fans than BC fans, no one seems to care about Boston College in Boston lol....

ND has always been a sellout in the NY area, Polo Grounds, Yankee Stadium, Shea, The Meadowlands.

It might also explain the NY Times coverage of ND. ND gets more Times ink than any other college program.

:) I copy and pasted it and didn't notice that there was a question mark at the end. So, I was trying to say that the method I preferred was the '#of ND fans in a state/#of college FB fans'

Pa has a fair amount of ND fans. If I had to rank these three teams counting fan base it would be PSU, ND and Pitt a distant third. I live in northeast Pa so I'm not to sure about western Pa.

Pitt fans would rank it just the opposite.

Well I live in pittsburgh and there was some recent study done and in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas, there was actually more Penn St grads then Pitt. I'm not sure how credible it is. But living here for 30 years, I would agree more people are Penn St fans over Pitt, then ND. Keep in mind Penn St. has been more successful over the last 25 yrs. So I think a whole generation grew up with Penn St winning and Pitt sucking. It may have turned a bit over the last few yrs but PSU still holds a comanding lead. ND is a clear third!!

IS it 9/2 yet??
