I know the 2006 season hasn't started yet but I can't help but feel worried about the 2007. This seasons team is full of seniors and once they leave ND is going to be forced to have to play many sophmores and possibly Freshman. But I also heard that Laws, Zibikowski, Carlson, and some others can have another year of eligibility if they petition for it, is this true? And can you see this happening?

Depends on the player. If the stock is high enough, the player probably won't come back, especially considering the '07 team will have lower expectations than the '06 team. That said, the Irish will compete that year, and might surprise people. Walker should be back, and be a senior, Clausen might be the QB, a lot of the young talent will emerge. It'll be an interesting year, and could be a surprising one for people. And by '08 the team should be fine.

Well, you can consider those three that you just mentioned as good as gone. All three of those guys will be NFL draft picks without a doubt, some very high first day selections. Throw in Quinn, Samardzija, Harris, Landri, so on and so forth. Those guys would actually be doing a disservice to themselves by coming back. Additionally, I think it would also be a disservice to the underclassmen that will be stepping in and gaining the experience that will be opening up.

While you do have a point that we will be losing a lot of experience, I happen to believe it will be a double-edged sword and it will end up being beneficial. Sure, 2007 looks to be a down year for Notre Dame, but the corp group of kids gaining the experience will be freshman and sophomore players, which could pay off huge in 2008-2010.

Sometimes to take two-three steps forward you must take one back.
