In 1995, Southern Cal came into South Bend undefeated and ranked in the top 5. The result was a 38-10 Notre Dame victory. The Irish were simply more physical on both sides of the ball, and no play better demonstrated that than Kinnon Tatum's hit on Delon Washington. With USC near the goalline, Tatum hurdled the Southern Cal fullback and delivered a jarring hit that sent the ball flying. The

Tatum. Cobbins. Berry. Minor. Howard.

One of my favorite linebacker corps.

That group was sick....I always thought out of all of them Cobbins was the best, but maybe that is just me.

The hardest hit I have ever seen was during the 2000 ND-Nebraska game. Walk on Matt Sarb got the go ahead to be the wedge buster on the kickoff team and flew down the field like a bat out of hell and hit the first 2 Nebraska players in the wedge so hard that they received minor concussions. Ahhhhhh sweet bliss.

Bert Berry was fun to watch. And Kory Minor might be my favorite ND player ever.

You would think at only 46 I could still remember names but alas I can't. The two best hits I ever saw was
1. Ross Browner broke into the line and smacked the sc qb with his forearm and bicep...The qb's feet kept going forward but the rest of him didn't and Browner creamed him.
2. Rick Dibanardo absolutely destroyed Mstates hot shot w rec on the sidelines...done for the day.....

I just think that Cobbins was the most well rounded and fundamentally sound but yeah Bert was tough...and Kory Minor was just a badass, a true badass.

Is my memory wrong or did ND run a 3-4 in those days?

And for all of the negative memories I have of Bob Davie I liked him as a DC. Awful head coach but he could scheme a D.

That was my first year watching ND football. My wife and I had season tickets and this was a big game. I remember sitting down in the student section watching and screaming out lungs out. I could not see the hit, but I remember the recovery and the crowd going nuts. What a great game.

I look back now and realize it's funny, because I knew so little about football at the time. I barely knew the rankings, so I did not realize that this was a big game.

Boy have I changed.

HOWEVER, it was ND stadium and the Irish that made me a college football fan for life.

GO IRISH!!!
