Ty's Recruits!
exactly why the defense sucked last year and why there are so many issues with the depth. Ty sucks at recruiting and I am tired of hearing about these kids being his. If that is the case why didn't he do what was done last year when he was here. coaching made the differance with these kids to bring them to the next level

if we can't get this thread turned back around toward its original point, i suggest that one of the mod's shut it down altogether. every so often, a ty guy will pop in, stir the pot, and disrupt any meaningful conversations about the UPCOMING season just to dwell on a dead issue.

i absolutely loathe the thought of visiting irishenvy and having to wade through discussions of washington's head coach when the 2006 season is RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER.

get your priorities straight.

I'm not a mod in this forum.

But I'll give you rep points for speaking for the majority.

And just for good measure...

Yes it is a shame, this thread turned into a Ty bashing one, simply because a poster pointed out that the players had nothing but good things to say about Ty when he was here too, making the point that....players always say good things when the coach is here....they would be idiots not to

This year's team played harder, smarter and longer than the 02 ever did.

Ty's 3 years of key scoring and yardage stats:
2002 - 22.3 ppg (opposition 16.7), 1812 yds rushing, 2264 yds passing
2003 - 20.2 ppg (opposition 26.2), 1881 yds rushing, 2149 passing.
2004 - 24.1 ppg (opposition 24.1 - weird); 1529 yds rushing, 2617 passing.

Weis' first year
2005 - 36.7 ppg (opposition 24.5), 1765 yds rushing, 3963 yds passing

That's night and day to me offensively speaking...

If Weis does the same this year...well it will be clear as day then.

BACK TO THE TOPIC OF THE THREAD IF I MAY

I seriously doubt Charlie Weis is there to be anyone's friend. Coach, yes. Friend, probably not.

Tough father like figure - yes.

He's tough but fair. The players realize that. They like that. He is showing them HOW to win. What it really takes.

The players would revolt if they thought he was a hard-ass, but a loser.

He's a hard-ass who teaches them how to win and be better all the time...to achieve the goals they all have for themselves...and to push further than they thought they could.

I can see these players really crediting their succcess to CW and the teachings he did. It seems he takes on the role of TEACHER first then the coaching, and you always remember your good teachers

Plenty of guys saw TW as a father figure, a man of integrity and principle. I think they respect Weis in many of the same ways, many respect him in completely different ways. I'm sure they learned things from TW as well in those years with him. I'm sure they've learned a lot from CW in the year plus since after he won that last Super Bowl and jumped into what looked like a bleak situation.

You respect your coach. Whether he's running a wide open pro style offense or West Coast offense, you do as you're told and to the best of your ability. Listen, do as you're told and conduct yourself like a man and decent human being.

A football team is a family. The locker room is your home. Everyone stands together for everyone else. Not everyone gets along, but you respect one another and do your job. Pick up yourself and the man next to you. Look yourself and everyone else in the eye and have the ability to be honest with anyone. No one should say anything to the press about TW, Weis or any other coach. When Jeff Samardzija writes his autobiography, he can say anything he wants. What goes on in that house stays in house.

The two men are totally different people. I don't think either one is a bad person especially compared to the dirtbags at some other schools. I consider TW to be a good man. I don't think he would ever stoop to the slimey sewer snake like depths of Jackie Sherrill or Pete Carroll or Dennis Erickson. He might not win like those guys, but he's not a cheating turd like them either.

Once this group of seniors graduates and the 5th year guys of 2007 are gone, that should really be about it as far as anyone still around that would be a major cog in the TW recruitng era at ND. At that point, there really shouldn't be much more to say. The Ty apologists and haters can all go back to being ND fans in 2008 and I can finally get rid of this headache.

I think the person that brought Ty Willingham into the subject was you. On the very first reply to the original post on this thread. Another poster put it perfectly that some just like to stir the pot.

From what I’ve seen in player interviews, they say that he’s “intense.” And, I think the players themselves have to be optimistic that he’s going to make them great athletes out of average players, similar to what he did at New England. With that being said, I’m not surprised that Weis has taken a bunch of two star players in the current recruiting class early. He’ll be able to coach them up and I believe in the long run you’ll see a few that should have been ranked a lot higher, while those who came in anointed have failed to meet expectations, and that goes for those teams where 5 stars opted to play at State -U instead.

Weis has taken a bunch of 2 star recuits in the 07 class? Who would they be?

Man oh man oh man, I mention Ty once to make a larger point, come back 2 days later, and there's 5 pages of debate on the poor guy. *sigh* Bad Vince! You know better than that!

Cue Brad Pitt...

First rule of Irishenvy: Never talk about Ty Willingham.

Second rule of Irishenvy: NEVER talk about Ty Willingham.

Heh, I was wondering when someone would ask me about that. :)

It's a promotional shot from "A Scanner Darkly", cropped in on just Keanu Reeves's face. (It looks so odd because the whole movie was done using some new animation technique, "rotoscoping" or something like that.)

The words underneath were pretty much an afterthought... whenever I see Keanu in anything, my mind instantly whips back to that famous scene in "The Matrix" where Morpheus jumps to the other skyscraper, and Neo just gets that look on his face and says "Whoa." And there were a few TD passes last year that left me similarly awestruck, so there ya go. :)
