Jamie Cumbie, his mother and Sports Information Director Tim Bourret (a Notre Dame grad - under AND masters) have all backpedaled and recanted his statements. Apparently, as Coach Weis indicated, "Jamie Cambie does not speak for the Clemson athletic department! In an article by Jeff Carroll in a local paper. When Notre Dame is recruiting an athlete, the promote the university (Many teams use the climate and setting AGAINST Notre Dame) So, if a recruit expresses an interest in education, you compare the pros and cons of Notre Dame and the other schools that are recruiting him. IMO, that's really all the staff did. Coach Weis has stated that he will continue to recruit an athlete that has been offered until L.O.I. Day, even after he has committed to another school - unless the athlete asks him do do otherwise. Cumbie was a five-star recruit who grew up in IL. Sorry I couldn't provide a link to the article. Hopefully, Svo or Jigga can locate the entire story. Interesting that Marcus Gilchrist, from High Point, NC, just committed to Clemson this week after listing Notre Dame as one of his five finalists (The other four were all located south of the Mason-Dixon and all schools he took visits to. Hmmm). Great to be relevant again, even if it results in false negative recruiting stories!
