Will Jimmy Clausen start as a Freshman

No offense but have any of these 4 guys ever taken a snap in college? Frazer and Jones will only have 5 months more experience on Clausen (enrolling early), which will primarily consist of making sure Brady's gatorade is cold. I guess Sharpley has the most experience so he would be the starter if that's what were going by. Should be an interesting spring in 07, that's when we can begin to answer these questions. I think it's wide open, but I'm pulling for Jones.

I just love having this problem. We have so many options with all the great recuits! There's going to be some battles for starting that's for sure. I'm not sure if that's always a good thing, and I think their might be a transfer in the next year or two. But it will be fun watching it play out.

agreed, I'd much rather have this problem than wonder who in the world is gonna fill for Brady and have no real answers... and BTW nice to see you Irish4... ;)

The nice part of our dilemma is that whoever starts is going to be a hell of a QB. And if this person does not perform, then we have a hell of a QB as backup. And if this person does not perform, then we have another hell of a backup (assuming someone does not transfer).

I cannot remember having these discussions with Davie and Ty as coaches!!

Having so many good QBs is great! But someone is not going to stick around. Being a backup is one thing, being the 3rd string QB is another. Frazer or Jones will not sit on the bench for to many years when they could start for any other team. And as we all know Jones said he came to ND to play QB. He did not come run pass patterns. I think if Jones is not willing to move to WR either Frazer or Jones will move on.

Thanks, same to you. How do you like this site? Told you it was good and a lot of knowlegeble posters. IMO if Jones, Frazier, Clausen had to compete for starting position I would give it to Jones, at this time. However, I think if Clausen is willing to work really hard he could get a shot also. At this time my pick is Jones. If anyone is to transfer my GUESS is Frazier. Just listening to Jones this kid is REALLY hungry and I think he's going to work his butt off for CW.

yeah and clausen will just roll over right?
he's enrolling early, by the time the season starts in september he'll have had 9 months of learning and practicing with the team. the whole "jones will have had more time to learn" doesnt mean anything, considering if "having more time to learn" was the case then only seniors would start at ND.

I think everyone has stated their case here.

Hopefully you can wait another year before it sorts itself out.

Before everyone annoints Clausen as the next great QB sure fire starter at Notre Dame, let me throw out a couple of names off the top of my head. One I'm sure you guys are very familiar with Ron Pawlus and the other is Brock Berlin. Both were sure fire, can't miss #1 QBs in the nation when they came out of high school. But guess what, they missed. They both had decent careers but nothing spectacular.

Don't get me wrong I would love have Clausen at South Carolina but the kid is going to have enough pressure on him already. He would probably benefit from redshirting a year and then maybe even being the #2 guy after that. Sitll gives him 2 or 3 years to start depending on whether or not he would go pro early.

This thread is really starting to piss into the wind.

Can anyone tell me who will start at DT from 2007-2010? I'm curious to know the answer to that question. How about a weather prediction for October 4, 2008 vs. Stanford in South Bend?

If you haven't made a Powlus to Clausen comparison by now, there should be a Federal Law stating you can't. Don't forget his two older brothers, too. My personal favorite HS All American QB bust is Dan Kendra. Dude got moved to fullback at FSU.

40 something days from the 2006 kickoff means we're about 400 from finding out who starts in 2007.

Pawlus started for a few years at ND. He broke every conceivable passing record at ND. This in spite of playing a good chunk of the time in an option offense and in spite of having little help by way of wide receivers. Not to mention shattering his collarbone before playing a game.

If Beano had never made the two Heismans prediction, opposing fans would hardly remember much about him. As it is, they like to use the Pawlus-Clausen comparison to try to take the wind out of our sails and make themselves feel better. But they do so with little actual knowledge of how Pawlus' career actually went down.

No offense to you, SC. It's just an old comparison that really means nothing.

We're pretty much guaranteed to have a hotly recruited and talented QB on the field in 07. And he will be coached by a pretty good guy for getting the most out of his QB's. At this point, who that QB will be is irrelevant.

As I stated in another thread...I will never worry about three positions under Weis, TE, WR and especially QB.
